The program, called Promar, seeks solutions to revitalize and stimulate the continuity of production in mature offshore fields, says MME
The Ministry of Mines and Energy – MME launched the Maritime Fields Revitalization and Incentive Program, called “Promar”. The objective is to prolong the useful life of the pre-salt oil fields and stimulate the economic recovery of the oil and gas industry in mature fields, as is the case of the Campos Basin, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
Purpose of the program to revitalize maritime fields
Promar seeks to increase oil recovery, create jobs, maintain local goods and services, and create better conditions for the economic exploitation of oil and gas. The program launched by the MME is modeled on the Program for the Revitalization of Oil and Natural Gas Exploration and Production in Onshore Areas (Reate).
After years of oil and natural gas exploration, mature offshore oil fields began to produce less and less. However, with infrastructure in place and reservoirs exposed, mature oil fields offer the opportunity to extract the remaining oil and natural gas with a lower investment than new oil fields, so the program can revitalize these offshore fields.

The revitalization of the Campos Basin according to the MME
According to the MME – Ministry of Mines and Energy, the reason for creating the plan was the drop in post-salt oil production, the so-called mature fields are located mainly in the Campos Basin and have been considered the main sedimentary area. Explore the coast of Brazil. The basin has an area of approximately 100.000 square kilometers and extends from the surroundings of the city of Vitória (ES) to Arraial do Cabo, on the north coast of Rio de Janeiro.
