Starting in 2024, Brazil will resume charging taxes on electric cars and hybrids. The tax rate will gradually increase, reaching 35% in July 2026.
In summary, this means that the most popular electric cars, such as the BYD Dolphin, which currently costs R$ 149,800 and is among the best-selling hatches in Brazil, will not have as favorable prices as before.
According to the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services, the reintroduction of taxes aims to promote the growth of the national industry, accelerate the transition to vehicles with lower carbon emissions, and boost the country’s industrial revitalization process.

The Audi Q8 e-tron, currently the most expensive electric car among the 10 best-selling in the country, will have an exorbitant price increase. The SUV, which costs R$ 646,990 in its base version, will cost R$ 873,436 when the rate of 35% is applied.
