Even With Over 1 Million Reservations, Anyone With US$ 100,000 Can Acquire a Cybertruck Now, While Billionaire Elon Musk’s Tesla Has Delivered Only 25,000 Units in the U.S.
Tesla, known for its technological innovations and aggressive marketing strategies and for Elon Musk, is facing a surprising situation with its latest launch, the Cybertruck. Despite the over 1 million previously announced reservations, anyone willing to shell out US$ 100,000 can acquire a Cybertruck in the United States, while the automaker has already delivered around 25,000 units to reservation holders.
Reservations Evolution and Opening of Orders
Recently, Elon Musk’s Tesla started inviting reservation holders who placed their orders just a few weeks ago, something unexpected given the significant volume of accumulated reservations. The opening of orders to the general public and the inclusion of Canadian customers demonstrate a shift in strategy on the company’s part.
The Cybertruck order page in the U.S. now indicates that those opting for the dual-motor model may receive the vehicle later this month or next, s suggesting that the initial demand from reservation holders in the U.S. may be dwindling.

Price and Availability
Currently, the starting price of the Cybertruck in Canada is CAD 138,000 before taxes, a value that may significantly restrict its market in the country. For U.S. consumers, the Foundation Series model, which bundles several options and accessories for an additional US$ 20,000, makes the truck even more expensive. However, the Foundation Series offers a discount compared to purchasing options separately.
Elon Musk’s Tesla has not yet announced specific plans to launch the Cybertruck outside North America, mainly due to certification needs for international markets. This geographical limitation could further impact the model’s reach.
Experts, such as those from Electrek, raise concerns about the feasibility of future demand for the Cybertruck. The prevailing view is that only a small fraction of reservation holders may actually complete the purchase. The Foundation Series model, with its additional cost, may have contributed to this market limitation.
The rise in prices, which have increased by about 50% since the initial launch of the Cybertruck in 2019, may also be affecting demand. The need to cut costs or consider a more conventional version of the truck could be a necessary strategy to expand the market and attract more buyers.
