“The plan should be presented and likely executed between March 8 and 10, following a technical planning and with all necessary caution for the transfer of this fuel,” said the Minister of the Environment, Ricardo Salles.
According to Salles, the best way to transfer part of the iron ore to another ship is still being studied, but the expectation is that, whatever the case, removing part of the material will allow the lighter ship to float again, making it possible to be towed without further risks.
The incident occurred on the last 26th, two days after the vessel left the Ponta da Madeira Maritime Terminal. All 20 crew members of the ship were safely rescued.
In statements, the mining company Vale reports that it is providing the necessary technical-operational support and collaborating with maritime authorities. However, the stranding of the ship did not affect operations at the Ponta da Madeira maritime terminal.
