A 67-year-old retiree left the municipal apartment where she lived in Bas-Armagnac, in the Gers region, and began sleeping in her van. Convinced that the property is haunted, Véronique has avoided returning to the place since April.
Retiree reports fear inside the apartment
Véronique has been living in the apartment since October 2025. She told La Dépêche du Midi that, as early as November, she began to feel very tired and exhausted. As the months went by, she said she lost energy, motivation, and social contact.
The situation worsened when family members also reported disturbances caused by noises coming from the attic and a neighboring apartment that was empty. For her, these signs reinforced the feeling that there was something unusual in the residence.

Consultation with a medium increased concern
In search of explanations, the retiree claims to have consulted a medium. After the consultation, she began to believe that there were “blocked souls” in the property. Véronique also became convinced that deaths might have occurred in the residence in the past.
Since then, she says she can no longer enter the apartment. Her routine changed radically: she started living in the vehicle, parking in different cities, even facing heat and having to wash with cold water in public places.
City hall tried to offer alternatives
The city hall was alerted about the case and tried to present solutions. The mayor claims to have offered a hotel room and assistance for the move. He also reported having called the priest of the Nogaro parish.
The clergyman reportedly visited the residence and suggested the possibility of calling an exorcist priest. Véronique, however, wants to leave the apartment permanently and is looking for another property, preferably on the ground floor.
She describes herself as the first victim of the situation. While she hasn’t found a solution, she continues living in the van and states that she still feels fear in her public account.
