With Only 3 Units in the World and an Estimated Price of US$ 28 Million, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail Is the Most Expensive Car Ever Made, Customized with Handmade Interior and Finish Inspired by Luxury Yachts.
In the world of automotive luxury, few names carry as much weight as Rolls-Royce, and no creation from the brand represents the fusion of art, engineering, and exclusivity as much as the Boat Tail. Officially presented in 2021, the model became a true masterpiece on wheels — a car so rare and personalized that only three units were produced worldwide, each tailored to its respective owner. With an estimated price of US$ 28 million (approximately R$ 150 million), the Boat Tail has earned the title of the most expensive new car ever manufactured in history.
A Tribute to Luxury Yachts
The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is inspired by classic yachts from the 1920s and 1930s, reflecting the British nautical tradition that combines elegance and precision craftsmanship. The very name “Boat Tail” refers to the elongated and curved rear of the vehicle, whose silhouette resembles the deck of a boat.
The body is entirely handmade with hand-shaped aluminum panels, without the use of industrial robots. Each unit received a customized finish according to the client’s wishes in a process that took over four years of handcrafted work inside the brand’s customization studio, Rolls-Royce Coachbuild, in Goodwood, England.

Handcrafted Luxury to the Last Detail
On the outside, the Boat Tail is a visual spectacle: a true automotive sculpture measuring 5.8 meters long, combining exclusive two-tone paint, brushed steel elements, and high-quality nautical wood details. But it’s the interior that defines what luxury means in the 21st century.
The cabin was entirely handmade, with seats covered in artisanal stitched leather, integrated Bovet 1822 clocks in the dashboard, instruments with polished aluminum frames, and genuine mother-of-pearl details. Each piece was produced individually, without an assembly line, and the internal finish took more than 3,000 hours of human labor.
A “Luxury Picnic” Under the Hood
The rear of the Boat Tail houses one of the most surprising elements: a set of refrigerated and automated compartments that open in butterfly-wing style, revealing a true “luxury picnic service.”
The set includes crystal glasses, silver cutlery, custom porcelain plates, embroidered napkins, and a refrigerator capable of keeping Armand de Brignac champagne bottles at the ideal temperature of 6 °C.
There are also retractable tables and integrated umbrellas — a detail that led engineers to compare the car to a land yacht, made for the extreme leisure of its owners.
Power with Serenity
Under the hood, the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail houses the well-known 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, delivering 563 horsepower and a torque of 91.8 kgfm. Although performance is not the focus of the vehicle, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 5 seconds, maintaining the smooth and silent behavior characteristic of the brand.
Each unit was individually tuned to offer maximum comfort, acoustic insulation, and stability, resulting in an almost floating driving experience — like sailing over asphalt.
Exclusivity as a Philosophy
Rolls-Royce describes the Boat Tail as “a manifesto on the future of luxury,” where the product is not only purchased but created alongside the customer.
Each example is the result of hundreds of meetings between designers, engineers, and owners, who actively participated in the choice of materials, colors, and textures.
Among known owners, it is rumored that one of the units belongs to the couple Jay-Z and Beyoncé, although the brand has never officially confirmed this.
The project is part of the Coachbuild line, a Rolls-Royce program that revives the spirit of the old custom coachbuilding — a common practice in the early 20th century when each vehicle was uniquely assembled. The Boat Tail is the pinnacle of this philosophy: a car made not for transportation, but to celebrate status and the art of absolute personalization.
The Most Expensive Car on the Planet
With an estimated value of US$ 28 million, the Boat Tail has surpassed legendary models such as the Bugatti La Voiture Noire and the Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta, consolidating Rolls-Royce at the top of the global automotive pyramid.
More than just a vehicle, it is a symbol of how luxury can be translated into form, texture, and exclusivity.
Each unit is a true reflection of its owner’s personality — and, according to the brand, none of the three Boat Tails is the same as another. The result is a combination of engineering and art that few vehicles in history have managed to achieve.
