Castello Branco Also Mentioned Petrobras Headquarters In Salvador – Known As Conjunto Pituba – Consisting Of A 22-Story Tower That Cost R$ 2.087 Billion
On Tuesday, October 8, Petrobras President Roberto Castello Branco stated that “nature worked against” Bahia, which, according to him, was once a very important state for the company, but today only represents 1.5% of the company’s production. “Unfortunately, our production in Bahia has become irrelevant today, just like other Northeastern states, such as Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Alagoas, and Sergipe,” Castello Branco said during a public hearing in the Chamber of Deputies’ Mines and Energy Committee.

Castello Branco also mentioned the headquarters of Petrobras in Salvador – known as Conjunto Pituba – consisting of a 22-story tower that cost R$ 2.087 billion, while the company barely occupies five floors of the building. “We made the decision to vacate the building, which is a monument to waste, a true temple of corruption,” he stated.
The subject of the session in the committee is “the closure of Petrobras in Bahia and the dismantling of Petrobras in the Northeast.” “We are not closing our operations in the Northeast. We are selling to private companies interested in these assets, which are investing in the region and will generate jobs. Petrobras does not have the money to invest in everything,” he concluded.
The Oil Company Will Sell Offices Abroad
The sale of assets is a way to reduce the state-owned company’s debts. According to Castello Branco, the divestments already made, as well as those planned for the future, do not signify a reduction in jobs or the dismantling of the oil company.
Currently, the oil company has 11 units in other countries. The measure is part of Petrobras’ divestment plan.
