Electric Sector Meeting in Cuiabá Discusses Energy Transition and Efficiency with 1,200 Participants and Solutions for Decarbonization.

Last month, the city of Cuiabá was the venue for a fundamental event for the electric sector. Organized by Sindenergia/MT, the meeting brought together around 1,200 participants, including experts and industry leaders. The main objective was to discuss innovative solutions for decarbonization and to increase efficiency within the sector. This event highlighted the importance of global collaboration to tackle rising environmental challenges.

The pursuit of innovations and energy efficiency is driving significant transformations in the energy industry. The emphasis of the meeting was directed towards the integration of new technologies and practices that enhance productivity while reducing environmental impact. With intense debates and exciting presentations, participants left equipped with new ideas and strategies that promise to reshape the path towards a more sustainable future.

Advances in Energy Transition and Power Generation

The 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-30), scheduled for 2025, highlights how large-scale events can provoke significant changes in power generation. The expectation is that this conference will drive stronger international agreements and facilitate an energy transition that is both economically and environmentally beneficial. The topics addressed at COP-30, including the integration of renewable technologies, resonate strongly with the objectives discussed at the meeting in Cuiabá.

Recent years have witnessed a rapid expansion of renewable energy sources in the electric sector. Data from the 2022 Energy Innovation Annual Report, published by the International Energy Agency, indicate a steady increase in the use of solar and wind energy, strengthening the resilience of electrical infrastructure. These changes have had significant social and economic impacts, altering the global landscape of the energy industry.

Under the pressure of established climate targets, governments and private sectors are ramping up their research and development efforts. International partnerships and robust investments have been leveraged, seeking a total restructuring of the global energy framework. Collaboration continues to emerge as a cornerstone in this critical phase of energy transition.

By 2030, it is expected that around 50% of the world’s electricity will come from clean sources, meeting the ambitious targets set by the Paris Agreements. The impact of these changes in the electric sector will be reflected in continuous improvements in quality of life and public health, demonstrating that sustainable transformation is achievable.

For those involved in the energy industry, events such as the meeting in Cuiabá and COP-30 serve as powerful reminders of the need for practical action and sustainable innovation. With the world at the forefront of a crucial energy transition, every step towards sustainability is a step in the right direction.

Electric Sector Industry Meeting in 2024

The Union of Construction, Generation, Transmission, and Distribution of Electric Energy and Gas in the State of Mato Grosso (Sindenergia MT) is organizing an important event known as the Electric Sector Industry Meeting. This event will take place at Fatec Senai in Cuiabá on May 20 and 21, focusing on the future of the electric sector. The initiative aims to explore and discuss innovative solutions for power generation, transmission, distribution, and also commercialization, particularly addressing energy transition and the decarbonization process in the energy industry.

Solutions for a Sustainable Electric Sector

Several lectures are planned to analyze the potential of energy sources in the state, such as solar, hydroelectric, gas, green hydrogen, and biomethane. One of the highlights will be the presentation of the BESS (Battery Energy Storage System), nicknamed ‘super batteries’. According to Carlos Garcia, president of Sindenergia MT, these systems are crucial to ensuring the stability of electricity supply while reducing dependence on diesel generators. ‘The prices of ‘super batteries’ have dropped significantly this year, allowing their viability for the productive sector’, Garcia commented.

United Nations Conference and Decarbonization

The proximity of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-30), scheduled to occur in November in the city of Belém (PA), is another factor driving discussions on decarbonization in the electric sector. The expectation is that energy demand will grow as companies seek more sustainable pathways. There are still uncertainties about where to start, but a decisive step is investing in energy efficiency, modernizing equipment, and reducing consumption, thereby contributing to decarbonization, as Garcia emphasized.

Commercial Exhibition and Mass Participation

This year, the event has prepared a business fair where exhibitors representing the entire production chain of the electric sector — from manufacturers to marketers of energy solutions — will be present. More than 20 nearly fully sold-out booths will be available. The organization expects an increase in participation, aiming for double the audience compared to last year, totaling around 1,200 participants. Registrations are already open to the public, and the sale of spaces is in the final stretch.

Participatory Management in the Electric Sector

Taking office in November 2024, the new board of the union, composed of representatives from various sectors of the electric industry, is focused on participatory management to address the main issues in this field. According to Garcia, ‘increasing investments in transmission and distribution is crucial for the growth and strengthening of the electric industry, providing benefits for the entire energy industry that depends on our services’.

Thematic Panels and Challenges in the Electric Sector

The event’s program will include eight thematic panels, each led by different directors of the union, planned to explore various sources of power generation and the challenges present in the Electric Sector. Each panel will aim to bring to light practical and viable solutions to overcome the obstacles that the energy industry currently faces, as well as to promote discussions on energy efficiency and the importance of investments in transmission and distribution.
