Embraer Unveils Four Planes With Different Renewable Energy Concepts for Zero Carbon Emission Viability
Yesterday, Monday (11/08), the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer announced four new concept airplanes that will help plan the future of air transport in the next 20 years. Although their sole objective is to advance engineering and market research, these concepts focus on differentiated solutions using renewable energy for each step of the aviation energy matrix change. The Project That Will Utilize Renewable Energy Concepts in Aircraft
The details of the “Energia Family,” the latest initiative of the company named “Sustainability in Action,” were streamed live on YouTube directly from the Embraer factory in São José dos Campos. The company partnered with an international consortium of engineering universities, aerospace research institutes, and small and medium enterprises to better understand energy capture, storage, and thermal management, and their applications for sustainable aircraft propulsion.
The “Energia Family” consists of four concept aircraft of varying sizes that incorporate different propulsion technologies – electricity, hydrogen fuel cells, dual-fuel gas turbines, and hybrid-electric systems. Each Embraer aircraft is being analyzed for its technical and commercial viability.

Building a 95-square-meter house in 2026 can start at around R$ 185,000 at the reference base and exceed R$ 330,000 in high standard, but the final cost depends on the land, finishing, fees, and the region, with the South of the country being among the most expensive in Brazil.
Making the Sustainable Project Viable
Luis Carlos Affonso, Senior Vice President of Engineering, Technology, and Corporate Strategy at Embraer, explained the reason behind the Energia Family. “We see our role as a developer of new technologies to contribute to the industry in its sustainability goals. There is no easy or one-size-fits-all solution to achieve zero emissions. New technologies and their supporting infrastructure will be made available over time. We are working now to adjust the initial aircraft concepts, those that can start to reduce emissions as soon as possible. Small aircraft are ideal for testing and proving new propulsion technologies so they can later be applied to larger aircraft. That’s why our Energia Family is such an important platform.”
Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, commented on the company’s strategy regarding sustainability, “We will see a major transformation in our sector towards more sustainable aviation. With 50 years of experience in developing, certifying, and supporting regional aircraft, Embraer is in a unique position to enable the introduction of innovative and sustainable new technologies.”
