At Industry Event, Vice President Reveals How National Ships Can Become the Key for Brazil to Overcome Trade Barriers and Strengthen the Economy.
Amid a government plan to respond to the tariff implemented by the United States, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin pointed to the shipbuilding industry as a central piece for the future of Brazilian foreign trade. The strategy, according to him, is to strengthen the sector to expand partnerships and add value to exports.
The Shipbuilding Industry as a Strategic Response
The federal government is studying a reaction to the U.S. tariff, and one of the main strategies is the redirecting of Brazilian exports to other global markets. In this scenario, Geraldo Alckmin positioned the shipbuilding industry as a promising solution.
According to the vice president, ships manufactured in the country are the key. “Ships built in national territory position Brazil as a provider of integrated solutions in construction, training, and technological support,” he stated. He emphasized that this capability opens doors for new partnerships and, crucially, for a “export agenda with higher added value”.

More than Economy: A Sovereignty Project
The statement was made during the Launch of the Frigate Jerônimo de Albuquerque, in Navegantes (SC), an event that was attended by Defense Minister José Múcio. Alckmin reinforced that strengthening the sector is essential to sustain the country’s trade routes.
For him, investment transcends the economy and touches on a vital point for the country. “Investing in sovereignty reverberates in transversal transformation, in generating wealth for the Brazilian people,” concluded Alckmin, directly connecting the advancement of the shipbuilding industry to national strengthening.
