Treasury Direct Considers Launching Treasury Selic at R$ 10 and Allowing 24-Hour Trading with Pix, Facilitating Investment for Beginners.

The Treasury Direct is set to undergo one of the most significant transformations since its inception. The National Treasury is simultaneously working on two fronts: the creation of a new Treasury Selic with a nominal value of R$ 10 and the implementation of a continuous trading system, available 24 hours a day.

The initiatives involve B3 and the Bank of Brazil and aim to make public securities more accessible and compatible with the digital routines of investors.

The changes are in advanced stages and may come into effect in the coming months.

24-Hour Trading Advances in Partnership with B3

One of the most anticipated projects is the approval of buying and selling public securities at any time of the day, including on weekends.

The so-called 24×7 trading is already officially listed among B3’s projects and has been advocated by the National Treasury as a way to modernize access to the market.

According to the Brazilian stock exchange, the first phase of this model will feature immediate settlement via Pix, allowing investors to receive funds almost instantly after the transaction.

Treasury Selic Will Be the First Security in the New Environment

The title chosen to inaugurate continuous trading will be a specific version of Treasury Selic.

This security will have differentiated characteristics, such as immediate liquidity, fractional purchases, and elimination of market marking, ensuring that the purchase price is the same as the sale price.

With this, Treasury Direct aims to reduce complexity for newcomers and increase investment predictability.

New R$ 10 Security Changes the Logic of Minimum Investment

While advancing in trading without time restrictions, the National Treasury is also preparing to launch a new series of Treasury Financial Letters (LFTs) with a significantly lower nominal value than the current one.

The proposal is to reduce the base value from R$ 1,000 to R$ 10.

Currently, since the minimum investment corresponds to 1% of the nominal value, the available LFTs require initial contributions of around R$ 180.

With the new security, this amount would drastically decrease, opening doors for investors with limited resources.

Presidential Decree Paved the Way for Change

The issuance of the new security only became possible after the publication of a decree signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), which authorizes public securities with a nominal value multiple of R$ 10.

Following this measure, the National Treasury confirmed that there is “a forecast for the imminent issuance of a new security under the Treasury Direct Program, through the series Treasury Financial Letters – LFT series TD – LFT-TD” of the new LFT within the Treasury Direct program.

Treasury Says Focus is on Serving Conservative Investors

In an official statement, the National Treasury stated that the new security was designed to meet a specific market demand.

According to the agency, the security arises as an alternative for investors seeking simplicity, stability, and low risk, without exposure to financial losses.

The product’s development is taking place in conjunction with B3 and the Bank of Brazil, and the project is already in the operational testing phase.

Strategy Aims to Enhance Financial Inclusion

With the combination of cheaper securities and operation without time restrictions, Treasury Direct reinforces its strategy of financial inclusion.

The idea is to reach people who have never invested or have given up due to lack of resources or time.

Thus, by reducing entry barriers and modernizing the investor experience, the program repositions itself as one of the main gateways to fixed income in Brazil.
