Toyota Yaris Cross Arrives With Both Feet In The Door: New Brazilian Mini SUV Will Be Cheaper Than The Creta And Renegade, And Promises To Sell Like Hotcakes
Without a shadow of a doubt, the launch of the Toyota Yaris Cross is set to stand out as one of the most popular cars in Brazil. This highly anticipated SUV promises to shake up the national automotive market with its various versions and configurations. With a promising future in the country, the Yaris Cross is expected to be a true sales success and cheaper than its competitors.
Scheduled to arrive in 2025, the Toyota Yaris Cross not only promises to be the cheapest SUV from Toyota but also the cheapest hybrid in Brazil. This compact SUV, able to achieve up to 30 km/l, will be a flex hybrid designed to compete with models like Honda HR-V, Nissan Kicks, Chevrolet Tracker, Hyundai Creta, and Jeep Renegade.
New Yaris Cross Arrives In 2025 As The Cheapest SUV From Toyota!
After The Launch Of The Corolla Cross, The Next Big Highlight From Toyota Is The Yaris Cross, Which Promises To Be The Cheapest Hybrid Car In Brazil!
After the launch of the much-anticipated Corolla Cross 2025, the next big highlight from Toyota in Brazil is the Yaris Cross, with a launch scheduled for 2025. Toyota’s strategy is to offer the compact SUV as the most economical hybrid vehicle in the country.
-
It surpassed the T-Cross, the Tera, and the BYD Song: with nearly 4,000 units sold, the Hyundai Creta is the best-selling SUV in the first half of April.
-
Driven by the BBB showcase, the Chinese Hatch surges in retail, surpasses the Corolla Cross, and begins to threaten Hyundai and BYD in one of the month’s most unexpected turns.
-
Toyota is preparing the new 2028 Corolla Cross with 7 seats, an extended wheelbase of +15 cm, up to 4.65 m in length, hybrid with 100 km in electric mode, more efficient 1.5 and 2.0 turbo engines, and Safety Sensing 4.0 technology with AI and remote updates.
-
At 625 meters above the ground and with a span of 1,420 meters between mountains, China inaugurated the highest bridge in the world — and the 2-hour journey now takes 2 minutes.
The key point to achieve this goal will be the use of a more affordable platform, the DNGA, developed by Daihatsu. In fact, this collaboration may be the reason why the launch was postponed to 2025: Toyota decided to take over the development of all vehicle projects for emerging markets after a scandal involving Daihatsu’s safety testing.
This model of the Yaris Cross that will be produced in Brazil is completely distinct from the models available in Europe and Japan.
With The Same System As The Corolla And Corolla Cross Models, The New Mini SUV From Toyota Promises To Achieve 30km/l
Potentially, the Yaris Cross will be the first full hybrid compact SUV (HEV) available in Brazil, using the same system as the Toyota Corolla and Corolla Cross models, but with different engines. It will be equipped with a 1.5 16V flex Atkinson-type combustion engine. The use of ethanol may enhance the 92 hp and 12.3 kgfm of torque produced by the Thai model.
The electric motor, which has 81 hp and 14.4 kgfm, is paired with an eCVT transmission and a generator that recovers energy during deceleration, storing it in a modest 0.7 kWh battery located under the rear seats. The combined power in the Thai model reaches nearly 113 hp, a misleading figure considering that the Corolla models perform well with just 122 hp.
Also available is a non-electrified 1.5 16V engine for the more basic versions, producing about 106 hp and 14.1 kgfm, values similar to those of the Yaris hatch and sedan produced in Brazil using gasoline (105 hp and 14.3 kgfm or 110 hp and 14.9 kgfm with alcohol). It will be paired with an automatic CVT transmission. The Yaris Cross is notably lightweight, weighing 1,150 kg.
A relevant detail is that the hybrid model has a fuel tank of only 36 liters, while the other versions have 42-liter tanks. It is no surprise that the hybrid Yaris Cross in Thailand achieves 30 km/l.
Safety: Toyota Yaris Cross Offers Six Airbags, Disc Brakes On All Four Wheels
The design of the Toyota Yaris Cross refers to the RAV4, especially the grille and the silhouette of the vehicle. Its dimensions are ideal for the compact SUV segment, measuring 4.31 m in length, 1.77 m in width, 1.65 m in height, and 2.62 m in wheelbase, dimensions comparable to those of the Nissan Kicks.
In Thailand and other markets, the Toyota Yaris Cross offers six airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, and features such as a pre-collision system, full LED headlights with automatic height adjustment, lane departure assist, adaptive cruise control, LED taillights, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Internally, the vehicle features a digital instrument panel with a screen of up to 7 inches, automatic air conditioning, a keyless entry system with push-button start, a 10.1-inch multimedia center compatible with Android Auto and Apple Carplay wirelessly, and electronic parking brake with auto-hold function.
New Mini SUV From Toyota Will Be Manufactured In Sorocaba (SP)
Manufacturing will be concentrated at the Sorocaba (SP) plant, which is already being prepared for production of the model. The total investment for this model is approximately R$ 1.7 billion of the R$ 11 billion announced by Toyota through 2030.
Production is scheduled to start in 2025, and the vehicle is expected to reach Brazilian dealerships in 2026. The Sorocaba plant will also begin assembling batteries for the hybrid systems of national vehicles that year.
A Second Model Is Also Confirmed: An Evolved Version Of The Yaris Exclusive To Brazil, Based On The Same DNGA Platform As The Yaris Cross, Or A Derivative Of The SUV.
A second model is also confirmed, utilizing the same flex hybrid technology and specifically developed for the Brazilian market. Although Toyota does not reveal many details, it would not be surprising if it were an evolved version of the Yaris exclusive to Brazil, based on the same DNGA platform as the Yaris Cross, or a derivative of the SUV.
The hybrid system is particularly advantageous as it allows the electric motor to almost always be the primary means of propulsion of the vehicle, capable of operating solely with the electric motor for limited periods, eliminating the need for external chargers.
Mini SUV Yaris Cross Is The Cheapest Car From The Japanese
To achieve the goal of being the cheapest hybrid in Brazil, the Toyota Yaris Cross just needs to have a starting price lower than R$ 187,790 currently charged for the Corolla Altis Hybrid.
The expectation is that prices will start around R$ 150,000 for the 1.5 model and R$ 165,000 for the hybrid, positioning itself competitively with the Honda HR-V, which has a 1.5 engine with 126 hp.

Pretendo comprar o Toyota yaris Cross híbrido flex assim que for lançado.
