Transnordestina Just Signed an Engineering Project for R$ 15.2 Million for the Stretch Between Salgueiro and Porto Suape, Aiming to Avoid Past Mistakes and Delays. Discover How This Measure Can Speed Up the Works!
The Transnordestina Railway is a highly relevant project for the logistical and economic development of the Northeast, and it recently gained new directions in Pernambuco.
The breakthrough was marked by the signing of a contract between Infra S.A., linked to the Ministry of Transport, and the Strategic Consortium – Prosul, which will be responsible for developing the basic and executive engineering projects for the stretch that connects Salgueiro to the Port of Suape.
This agreement represents an investment of R$ 15.217 million, as published in the Official Gazette of the Union.

86% of the journey is inside the mountain — Japan is building a train that levitates at 500 km/h and disappears underground to connect Tokyo to Osaka in 67 minutes.

The United States is spending $6 billion to replace a 150-year-old railway tunnel that is still in operation — the project spans 16 km in Baltimore and includes building the new tunnel next to the old one without stopping a single train.

92.62% completed, 519 km of tracks already installed, 41 tunnels excavated, and ongoing tests put the Chinese railway project of $10.63 billion in Malaysia just a few months away from starting operations and transforming the logistical axis between the two coasts of the country.

While in Brazil Ferrogrão has been waiting for 40 years, China has drilled through 19 seismic faults and dug a 34 km tunnel under mountains to build the world’s most difficult railway in 14 years…
Although the works have not yet begun, the development of the engineering project is an essential step to make the construction of the railway possible, scheduled to start in 2025.
This is the first federal investment in 14 years focused on the development of projects for new railway stretches. The initiative aims to prevent flaws in the projects that could increase costs and delay the delivery schedule of the work.
The Project Will Be Delivered in Four Months

The Strategic Consortium – Prosul will be responsible for developing the initial projects for the first 55 km of the railway, delivering this work within a four-month timeframe.
The detailing provided by these projects will allow Infra S.A. to start the bidding process for the railway. The complete timeline for the execution of the Transnordestina services is estimated at 18 months.
The stretch between the Port of Suape and Salgueiro, in the Sertão of Pernambuco, spans 520 kilometers and is budgeted at about R$ 450 million. This amount will be fully covered by the federal government.
The railway has been included in the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), being seen as a strategic component for reducing logistic costs in various sectors, such as agribusiness, mining, and industries in the Northeast.
The resumption of construction of the railway in Pernambuco represents an important achievement for the State, as, in December 2022, the Pernambuco portion had been removed from the project through a contract addendum signed between the previous government and the National Steel Company (CSN), the railway’s concessionaire.
This agreement left the Pernambuco stretch under the federal government’s responsibility, while CSN retained the stretches in Ceará and Piauí.
This situation generated dissatisfaction among political leaders in Pernambuco, resulting in coordinated efforts to reverse the decision. Governor Raquel Lyra, along with the Pernambuco congressional delegation, worked to raise awareness with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva about the importance of including the State in the project.
