More Than One Thousand Places in Free Distance Learning Undergraduate Courses at UFMA for the Population of Maranhão

The Directorate of Educational Technologies (DTED) at the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA) has announced Public Notice No. 05/2020-DTED and its Amendment, which contains the rules, routines, and procedures governing the Special Selection Process for Admission to the Free Undergraduate Courses at UFMA, in the Distance Education (EaD) modality, for the first semester of 2021.

A total of 1,017 places are offered, divided among General Competition, People with Disabilities, and Public School (which includes families with a per capita income equal to or less than 1.5 minimum wages; affirmative actions for self-declared black, brown, and indigenous people; people with disabilities under this category; and others).

UFMA offers the following free distance learning courses for the first semester of 2021 – the Bachelor’s Degree in Administration with places in the locations of Arari, Cururupu, Dom Pedro, Penalva, and Urbano Santos; the Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science for Alto Parnaíba, Cururupu, Paraibano, Penalva, and Viana;

The Portuguese Language course for Alto Parnaíba, Barra do Corda, Centro Novo, Cururupu, Grajaú, Pastos Bons, Loreto, and Urbano Santos; the Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics for Alto Parnaíba, Cândido Mendes, Centro Novo, Grajaú, Cururupu, Loreto, Paraibano, Penalva, Viana, and Urbano Santos; and the Bachelor’s Degree in Pedagogy for Alto Parnaíba, Barra do Corda, Cururupu, Dom Pedro, and Urbano Santos. Individuals residing in the respective municipalities or in the surrounding area within a radius of up to 100 kilometers can apply for the selection process.

Duration of the Free EAD Courses at UFMA and Applications

The free EAD courses at UFMA last four years, and all individuals who have a High School Completion Certificate or equivalent are eligible to apply for the places.

Applications can be made through the UFMA website until January 8, 2021, with the application fee of R$ 50 payable until the 11th of the same month.

Candidates who have the right to request an exemption must submit their request by the upcoming Sunday, the 27th. The selection process will involve an In-Person Objective Test on January 31, with 15 questions on Portuguese, 15 on Mathematics, and 10 on Basic Computer Science. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, candidates must attend and wear masks, as well as bring hand sanitizer.
