Case Involving Traffic Fines Attributed to a 92-Year-Old Woman, Who Has Not Driven for 18 Months and Keeps the Vehicle Immobilized, Led Belgian Authorities to Open an Internal Investigation Following Records of Offenses in Different Cities During December 2025
Despite being 92 years old and not having driven for about a year and a half, Fernanda Vandewalle started receiving traffic fines since December 2025, associated with a vehicle that was immobilized, a situation that led Belgian authorities to open an internal investigation.
Traffic Fines Registered in Different Locations
The retiree, originally from Bissegem, Belgium, was surprised with two speeding tickets, totaling € 126.84. The offenses allegedly occurred on December 18, 2025, in Farciennes, and on December 29, 2025, in Brussels, according to the documents received.
A third notification is already in processing, increasing the number of traffic fines attributed to the elderly woman. The records indicate different cities, which reinforces the unusual nature of the case reported by the family.

Vehicle Stationary and Plate Not Stolen
The vehicle involved in the traffic fines is a Mitsubishi Colt that remains parked at the house of Fernanda Vandewalle’s daughter. According to the family, the car was not used during the period of the offenses and there was no record of theft or plate change.
Thus, the circulation of the car in Farciennes or Brussels is technically considered inexplicable. The elderly woman herself joked about the situation by stating that she would not have the physical capacity to cover such distances at her age.
Family Impact and Administrative Hurdles
Fernanda Vandewalle’s grandson stated he is facing bureaucratic difficulties to contest the traffic fines and preserve his grandmother’s name. According to him, the process for correcting the records is complex and requires multiple contacts with the responsible authorities.
The family maintains that there is no basis for the fines and seeks formal clarifications about the origin of the notifications.
Official Investigation and Recommendation to the Parties
The traffic violations department reported that it has initiated an internal investigation to analyze the case. Authorities advised that none of the traffic fines be paid during the process, in order to prevent the payment from being interpreted as an admission of guilt while the investigation is ongoing.
