The Announcement From Toyota Came During an Event and the Decision Was Made in Light of a R$ 11 Billion Investment From the Automaker, Understand
Toyota announced during an event that it will invest R$ 11 billion by 2030 in Brazil, and part of this investment includes the transfer of Corolla production from Indaiatuba (SP) to Sorocaba (SP). The change will be gradual, starting in 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The Indaiatuba plant, which currently only produces the Corolla sedan, will be shut down, according to the Motor1 UOL website.
Expansion of Production Capacity and Creation of New Jobs With the Investment
The transfer of Corolla production to Sorocaba is part of a larger plan by Toyota to expand its production capacity in the country with the new investment. The company will build new facilities in Sorocaba to accommodate medium sedan production, which will result in the retention of 100% of existing jobs and the creation of 500 new positions at the plant. Hiring will begin in mid-2026 and by 2030 it is expected to reach 2,000 new direct jobs.
Reasons Behind the Decision and the Investment
The decision to transfer Corolla production to Sorocaba is not surprising, since Indaiatuba only produces the Corolla sedan, whose sales volume does not justify a dedicated factory. Furthermore, Sorocaba already produces the Corolla Cross and the Yaris line, sharing the same platform and components. Investments to modernize Sorocaba make the factory more suited for Corolla production.

Toyota is in negotiations with the Sorocaba union regarding the transfer of employees from Indaiatuba to the Sorocaba plant and the investments involved. The distance between the two cities is approximately an hour and a half, facilitating worker migration. With the investment, Sorocaba will double its production capacity, increasing from the current 200,000 vehicles to 400,000 units.
