The Kairós Wind Farm, owned by the Darby International Capital Group, in the city of Icapuí, promotes increasing Ceará’s presence in renewables and generating many jobs

The Ceará reaffirms its position as one of the leaders in wind energy in Brazil with the inauguration of the Kairós wind farm, located in the municipality of Icapuí.

The event, held this Wednesday (12), was attended by Governor Elmano de Freitas and representatives of the Darby International Capital Group, responsible for the venture.

With an investment of R$ 750 million, the new facility will represent a significant addition of R$ 2.175 billion to the state GDP, according to a study by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV). During the inauguration, the governor emphasized the importance of the initiative for the development of Ceará.

“Here, an important amount of energy will be produced, sufficient to supply about 260 thousand homes, equivalent to a city the size of Teresina, in Piauí. This investment is not only essential for Ceará, but for all of Brazil, as it strengthens our economy through clean energy”, emphasized Elmano de Freitas.

Technology and Job Creation

The Kairós wind farm features a generation park with 112.5 MW of installed capacity, distributed across 25 V150-4.5MW wind turbines.

One of the highlights of the project is that all the turbines were manufactured in Aquiraz, strengthening the local industry and consolidating Ceará as a hub for manufacturing equipment for the wind energy sector.

The venture also had a positive impact on the job market. During the construction phase, around 1,200 jobs were created, and at least 60 permanent positions were established for operation and maintenance activities.

The governor reinforced the importance of these investments to boost the economy of Ceará.

“We are working hard to make Ceará’s industry grow, generating jobs, income, and development for Icapuí and the entire state”, he highlighted.

The director of Darby International, Ricardo Roccia, also emphasized the significance of the project for the growth of the wind energy sector in Brazil.

“This investment marks the beginning of a promising cycle. We are committed to sustainable development and maintaining direct and indirect jobs for the state”, Roccia stated.

Economic Impact and Regional Development

Investments in wind energy have been transforming the economy of Ceará and bringing significant benefits to the municipalities where the plants are installed.

A study conducted by researchers from the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) revealed that the per capita GDP of cities that received this type of enterprise grew by 20% between 2001 and 2022.

In addition to generating clean and renewable energy, these projects boost municipal revenues and foster the creation of new job opportunities.

The president of Vestas Latin America, Eduardo Ricotta, reinforced the relevance of public-private partnerships in this context.

“This partnership with the Government of Ceará is essential. We manufacture all the equipment in Aquiraz, which strengthens the local production chain. Furthermore, investments like this increase revenues by at least 20% and create quality jobs, training the regional workforce”, Ricotta explained.

For the mayor of Icapuí, Kleiton Pereira, the arrival of the Kairós wind farm represents a turning point for the municipality. He highlighted the positive impacts that the venture will bring to the local population.

“Icapuí is ready to welcome new ventures that help develop our city. This investment improves our population’s quality of life and strengthens the local economy. Our word is gratitude”, he stated.

Promising Future for Wind Energy in Ceará

The state of Ceará has established itself as a national reference in wind energy, driving new investments and strategic partnerships.

With a favorable natural potential and public policies aligned with sustainable development, Ceará continues to lead the energy transition in Brazil.

The inauguration of the Kairós wind farm represents another important step in this trajectory, ensuring economic benefits, job creation, and a more sustainable energy matrix for the future.

The expectation is that new projects will continue to drive the growth of the state and reinforce its position as a leader in the wind energy sector.

With initiatives like this, Ceará proves that investing in wind energy not only contributes to environmental preservation but also drives the economy, strengthens the industry, and improves the quality of life of the population.

Will we soon see more municipalities following this path of innovation and sustainability?
