Angra 3 Nuclear Power Plant Consumes US$ 10 Million Without Functioning
Annually, Eletronuclear spends approximately 10 million dollars to maintain the plant, so that the equipment doesn’t become outdated and remains in perfect condition until 2021 when the construction is resumed.
In total, the plant has been idle for over 36 years, during which more than US$ 360 million has been spent, which would currently amount to over 2 billion reais, that have been invested in a stopped plant.
To alleviate the situation, the president of Eletronuclear states that even though the Angra 3 nuclear plant purchased most of the equipment in the 1980s, nothing changes, as he claims there have been no changes in technological evolution regarding the type of machinery.
