Novo Tempo Thermoelectric Power Plant Located in Pará Receives New License and Should Begin Second Phase of Its Construction Later This Year
The Novo Tempo thermoelectric power plant, located in Pará, in the lower Tocantins, was licensed by the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability of Pará, following an environmental impact analysis conducted by the agency’s technicians. It can now begin the implementation of the plant’s construction works.

The first phase of the thermoelectric power plant installation had already been authorized by the state government in September 2020. The second phase will include the construction of the plant’s modules and turbines, so that natural gas can reach the pier, which was already built in the previous phase of the thermoelectric plant.
Novo Tempo Thermoelectric Power Plant Will Be the First in Pará
The Novo Tempo thermoelectric power plant will be the first natural gas thermoelectric plant in the state of Pará and will contribute to the country’s electricity generation demand through the National Electric System of Brazil.

How much does it cost to live with dignity in Brazil? A study found that in all 79 regions analyzed, the necessary salary was above the minimum of R$ 1,621. In São Paulo, a family of four needs R$ 6,155 per month.
The plant will have a capacity of 600 megawatts and will create around 800 direct jobs and 2,000 indirect jobs. The construction works are also expected to consume about 30% of products and services from Pará suppliers, boosting the regional economy.
Economic and Environmental Benefits
In addition to the economic benefits, the State of Pará will also gain in environmental terms, as the energy from the produced fuel, natural gas, is much less polluting than other fossil fuels, such as oil and coal. This is because it is transformed into heat through combustion within gas-powered turbines; gases at high temperatures and speeds are generated that drive the turbines, which in turn activate the generators where electric energy is obtained.
The availability of this type of fuel is essential for energy generation and can be applied for domestic consumption and to support industries throughout the region.
