Brazil's best-selling SUVs in 2024 have attributes that put them in the lead. Let's find out which one stands out in five essential categories!

O Volkswagen T-Cross and Hyundai creta are SUVs best-selling in the first half of 2024, according to data from Fenabrave (National Federation of Motor Vehicle Distribution). The T-Cross underwent changes in May this year, while the Creta will receive a new look early next year, in line with the design adopted in other emerging markets such as India, according to autoo.

Sales and popularity comparison

From January to June, the Volkswagen T-Cross had 5.936 units sold, according to Fenabrave. O Hyundai Creta no was far behind, with 5.858 units. Year to date, the T-Cross totaled 31.519 sales, while the Creta reached 30.351, a minimal difference of just 12 units. With the updates to the Hyundai model promising to be more significant, the competition between these two SUVs promises to become even more fierce. So which one does better on five key points?

Fuel consumption: economy comes first

In terms of consumption, the Volkswagen T-Cross has the advantage. Equipped with a 1.0 12V turbo engine, the T-Cross gets 8,2 km/l in the city and 10,1 km/l on the highway with ethanol. With gasoline, the numbers rise to 11,9 km/l in the urban cycle and 14,3 km/l on the highway. In comparison, the Hyundai Creta, with its 1.6 16V aspirated engine, records 7,1 km/l in the city and 8,1 km/l on the highway with ethanol, and 9,7 km/l in the urban cycle and 12,1 km/l on the highway with gasoline. Therefore, the T-Cross is more economical.

Internal space: comfort and load capacity

When it comes to internal space, the Hyundai Creta stands out. It is 10 cm longer (4,29 meters compared to 4,19 meters for the T-Cross) and is 7 cm taller (1,63 meters compared to 1,56 meters), providing better use of internal space. However, the middle passenger in the rear seat faces the discomfort of the central tunnel. In the trunk, the Creta also wins, with a capacity of 431 liters versus 373 liters for the T-Cross. Like this, Crete ties the game.

Power and torque: agility and performance

In terms of power and torque, the Volkswagen T-Cross stands out again. With its 1.0 turbo 12V engine, it delivers 128 hp on ethanol and 116 hp on gasoline, in addition to 20,4 kgfm of torque with both fuels. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 10,1 seconds, and the maximum speed is 187 km/h. The Hyundai Creta, with a 1.6 naturally aspirated engine, 128/123 hp and 16,5/16 kgfm, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 12 seconds and reaches 172 km/h. Both have a six-speed automatic transmission, but the T-Cross is more agile.

Equipment and safety: protection and comfort

In terms of safety features, the Volkswagen T-Cross has the advantage. It comes with six airbags, while the Hyundai Creta offers just two. The T-Cross also has automatic differential lock (EDS), useful on low-grip surfaces, and exterior mirrors with “Tilt down” to help with parking maneuvers. With these differences, the T-Cross expands its advantage.

After-sales services: warranty and maintenance cost

In after-sales, Hyundai comes out ahead with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty for private use. Furthermore, the brand's scheduled service is more transparent and the first service is significantly cheaper compared to Volkswagen. VW offers a three-year warranty with a limit of 10 kilometers or 12 months, whichever comes first. Thus, Creta recovers points, but T-Cross still wins 3-2.

Which of these two machines would you choose?

Based on these five points, the Volkswagen T-Cross Sense 200 TSI stands out as the best choice, especially due to more efficient fuel consumption, superior performance and better safety equipment. However, the Hyundai Creta Action 1.6 offers more interior space and a more attractive after-sales policy., making it a viable option for those looking for long-term comfort and security.

For those who are in doubt between these two models, considering personal priorities is essential. If fuel economy and agility are essential, the T-Cross is the right choice. On the other hand, if space and a more robust after-sales service are more important, the Creta could be ideal.
