WEG Plans to Increase the Production of Renewable Energy Structures in Brazil, Increasing the Use of Solar Energy in the Country
The renowned electro-electronic equipment company, WEG, is ready to expand its operations in the solar energy market in Brazil. In an effort to further boost the sector and expand its portfolio, WEG will launch a line of metal structures for mounting its own brand modules this year.
Recently, the company surprised the photovoltaic sector by presenting its new line of single-phase inverters. These initiatives aim primarily to heat up the residential solar energy market, driving the adoption of this clean and sustainable source.
Currently, WEG holds the position of the 5th largest company by market value and has already delivered over 4 GW of installed capacity in solar photovoltaic systems, according to Status Invest, a reference platform for investment analysis.

Innovation on Brazilian Soil
WEG’s trajectory in the solar energy sector has been marked by innovation and a commitment to energy efficiency, renewable energy, and electric mobility. Founded in 1961, the company is globally recognized and has industrial operations in 15 countries, commercial presence in 37 countries, and sales to over 135 countries. Its more than 40,000 employees around the world are responsible for the net revenue of R$ 29.9 billion achieved in 2022, with over 50.3% coming from sales made outside Brazil.
WEG’s foray into the solar market began in 2012 when the company started to study the development of solar inverter solutions, based on the expertise acquired with its industrial inverter already established in the market. However, at that time, the Brazilian solar energy market still lacked incentives, and the return on investment was not viable. Therefore, technology development remained restricted to the research and development field in partnership with some universities.
It was only in 2013 that WEG won a bid to supply a Full EPC solar plant of 500 kWp in Fernando de Noronha (PE). In collaboration with a German company, the project was developed in modules, and string inverters were imported for implementation.
WEG Projects
Building on the know-how acquired during this first project, WEG participated in other solar energy projects in EPC format until 2016, when the partnership with integrators began. From this moment, WEG began to supply the equipment, while integrators took on responsibility for the project and installation.
In 2019, with a solidified partnership with various integrators, WEG ceased to participate directly in EPC projects for Distributed Generation plants, focusing on large solar energy plants.
Currently, WEG has a significant presence in the market for distributing medium and large three-phase systems. “The increasingly popular growth of solar energy in Brazil is a result of the experience and technology that WEG dedicates to solar energy generation.”
