History
The debate over the construction of the Salvador-Island of Itaparica Bridge and the need for integration of the flow of goods, services, and people between Salvador, Recôncavo, and the Island is not recent.
In 1967, architect Sérgio Bernardes proposed a solution within the Master Plan of the Aratu Industrial Center (CIA), which created a road ring with three types of layouts: two for heavy vehicle traffic, and the bridge connecting the capital and Itaparica.
Although some works were completed, such as BR-324 and BA-001, the bridge to cross the Baía de Todos-os-Santos had not left the public archives until the leftist government of Jaques Wagner decided to leverage structural works.
