Bosch, Nissan and Volkswagen are betting on technology that obtains hydrogen from ethanol; the fuel comes to revolutionize the car industry in the world
The multinational giant Bosch is a company that believes in the electrification of cars using ethanol. This will be possible thanks to the development of the ethanol-based fuel cell, which is also being developed by Nissan and Volkswagen. With this technology, a chemical reaction takes place inside the vehicle's engine, which removes hydrogen from ethanol and generates electricity, being able to move it autonomously and without generating polluting emissions.
“This is a great opportunity for Brazil and the ethanol industry to generate energy with a hydrogen cell, both for stationary and for urban mobility. By 2050, we know that we will have mobility free of carbon dioxide (CO2) and Brazil made the right decision in giving prestige to ethanol, as it is a biofuel that also boosts the local economy and generates jobs for the country”, said the president of Bosch in Latin America, Besaliel Botelho.
According to the executive, a new “prosperity leap” is yet to come. “Today, we are facing a new leap in prosperity with ethanol. Hydrogen, the most abundant element in the universe, is contained in ethanol, which is energy-intensive, can be produced with advantages, cane and corn biomass is renewable. The hydrogen from ethanol is safe and has zero emissions. Brazil is the only country that has a national ethanol supply network. These factors are decisive for the electrification of cars and trucks without the burden of batteries that cost five times more to be recycled and still use dirty energy”, pointed out Barbosa.
