He Highlighted That the Development of the Railway Modal Will Modernize Logistics, Increase Competitiveness and Sustainability of the Social Environment, and Also Bring More Safety to the Highways.
The statement was made yesterday at a press conference in Brasília regarding the work plan for the first 100 days of the ministry. Among them, the railway sector is one of the main concerns, mainly due to the projects of the railways Ferrogrão and West-East Integration (Fiol) – whose segment has already been bid – and the project of Central-West Integration (Fico), aimed at promoting the outflow of Brazilian agribusiness production to national ports.
“We will invest in the major transport corridors, in the duplications of highways, and in the railway integrations to increase the competitiveness of our economy. We are reorganizing the planning cycle for the next four years,” commented the minister, who anticipates R$ 1.7 billion for the planned works for the first quadrimester of 2023.

Regarding the Ferrogrão, Renan Filho highlighted that he will work to unlock the project and said he would seek the Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, to hear her opinion on the project. Expected to have 933 km of track linking Sinop (MT) and Mirituba (PA), the railway work was halted by an order from the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

MBRF surprises the logistics sector by demonstrating how Artificial Intelligence can directly influence deliveries throughout Brazil by reorganizing distribution routes in seconds, optimizing fleet usage, reducing logistics costs, and speeding up product arrivals even in the face of unforeseen road incidents.
The effort is structured to be the main grain distribution hub in Mato Grosso, a role currently played by BR-163, but which has faced setbacks for decades, partly due to possible environmental impacts of this project. With the project’s already worn image, the minister said he does not like the name Ferrogrão. “It sounds like something that goes against the environment.”
Waterways
In the reorganization of the federal government, which eliminated the Ministry of Infrastructure and created two ministries for Transport, Ports, and Airports, Renan argued that the waterways sector should be included in his ministry. In a series of changes made in recent weeks, the portfolio is directed by Márcio França. He discussed the responsibilities of the portfolio with the Minister of the Interior, Rui Costa, and with the Executive Secretary, Miriam Belchior, who agreed with his position on waterways, but stressed that the decision rests with the federal government.
Contribution to Other Infrastructures
Last week, the Ministry of Transport received recommendations for priority actions through public consultation. There were more than 6,000 contributions, mostly focused on improving the competitiveness of infrastructure and logistics for the movement of goods and people.
According to the minister, the idea is to increase investments to strengthen international competitiveness and protect the environmental conditions of the country. “Our goal is to halt the involution of the industry in the last four years. We are willing to improve our procedures to attract more private investments.”
