The first day of the 8th ABM Week highlights sustainability in industry. During the technical-scientific week, which commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Brazilian Association of Metallurgy, Materials, and Mining (ABM), circular economy and renewable strategies will be addressed to promote sustainability and the longevity of companies.

With the worsening of climate change and its devastating effects, the search for environmentally correct solutions is becoming increasingly urgent. The adoption of sustainable practices is essential to mitigate these impacts and ensure the preservation of ecosystems. This event, which will take place from September 3 to 5, 2024, in São Paulo, will promote discussions to encourage ecologically friendly development in the metallurgy, materials, and mining industries.

Dissemination of Sustainable Practices

Sustainable practices are becoming increasingly widespread around the world. In this context, in its 8th edition, ABM Week emphasizes the discussion on sustainability in Industry.

Considered one of the main technical-scientific and business meetings in Latin America, ABM Week is organized annually by the Brazilian Association of Metallurgy, Materials, and Mining – ABM. In 2024, the event will take place from September 3 to 5 in São Paulo – SP, at the Pro Magno Center for Events.

During the three days of ABM Week, various technical sessions from 14 events will be held simultaneously, in addition to other attractions such as plenaries, leaders’ forums, round tables, panels, and special sessions, focused mainly on sustainability.

Importance of Sustainability in ABM Week

Throughout the program, several current themes will be discussed, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability. Topics such as decarbonization of steelmaking and mining, energy transition, and circular economy will be highlighted, featuring business leaders, specialists, renowned professors, and students. ABM Week is a platform for exchanging crucial knowledge about sustainable practices.

On the first day of ABM Week 2024, celebrating the 80th anniversary of ABM, the Leaders’ Forum will be held on September 3, featuring executives from major steel and mining companies in Brazil.

On this occasion, executives such as Gustavo Werneck, CEO of Gerdau; Jorge Luiz Ribeiro de Oliveira, CEO of ArcelorMittal Flat Steel and Vice-President of ArcelorMittal; Marcelo Chara, CEO of Usiminas; and Ricardo Lima, CEO of CBMM, will discuss their renewal strategies and sustainability to ensure the longevity of their companies.

Thematic Events and Circular Economy

In addition to the Forum, the first day of the event will feature the 1st Seminar on Circular Economy and Sustainability, a Round Table on the new technological demands of circularity in industry, discussions on career development in the mining-metallurgical sector during Enemet, and a lecture titled ‘How to be Young at 80 Years Old’, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the association, taught by philosopher Lucia Helena Galvão.

This edition of ABM Week, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the entity, highlights sustainability and the industrial applications of artificial intelligence, contributing to the country’s development. During the event, ABM will promote the dissemination of knowledge about current and future advances in these and other relevant topics for the sector, impacting the entire productive chain of industry and benefiting society, as emphasized by Valdomiro Roman, ABM’s Operations Director.

In addition to the Leaders’ Forum, plenaries, panels, and round tables, the program for ABM Week 2024 — the largest technical-scientific event in Latin America in the fields of metallurgy, materials, and mining — will include technical sessions, awards, tributes, cocktails, and an exhibition area.
