Pix could become a headache between Brazil and the US, and the Lula government will go to the White House to explain the system before pressure mounts.
The volume exported in September was 756 thousand tons or US$ 379 million, a reduction of 20.9% and 27.4% compared to the same month in 2019. In 2020, it will be 142 thousand tons, US$ 171 million, a reduction of 22.9%.
Regarding production in the domestic market, steel production fell by 4.7% compared to August, mainly due to a decline in the production of semi-finished products. Domestic sales in September significantly increased by 7.1% compared to the previous month, confirming the rapid and strong recovery of the domestic market.
Marco Polo de Mello Lopes, CEO of the Institute Aço Brasil, stated that “Domestic sales of flattened products in September were 15.5% above the average sales that occurred in 2018 and 2019. Thus, the speculations that there would be a supply shortage in the domestic market due to the delay in restarting the sector’s blast furnaces and the increase in exports are unfounded.”
