In a statement, Antaq said that only the Union can determine the closure of port facilities or the suspension of service provision in interstate and international waterway transportation lines.
Additionally, the agency stated in its announcement: “At the moment, unrestricted suspension of passenger transport is not a measure indicated by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). The complete suspension of this service could hinder access to medical care, the movement of healthcare professionals, and the supply of vaccines, inputs, and medications to the Brazilian states.”
Regarding cabotage in the country, ABAC (Brazilian Association of Cabotage Shipowners) reported that activities are still taking place. Preventive measures have been taken by member companies to protect employees and contribute to the prevention of the virus.
