The multinational Ambev – the largest beverage company in the world – has just launched The Beer Academy – the first platform for free online beer knowledge courses open to the public in the country. The company’s unprecedented action calls for the correct use of the term ‘brewster’ and seeks to combat the inappropriate association between profession and gender, which is still very common in the brewing market. In a mobilization on Twitter last week, women supported the movement for gender equity and recognition of professionals inside and outside breweries.
“The #CervejeiraSouEu campaign plays a very important role in reaching more and more people, but more than that, it is necessary to promote real, effective, and combative changes, encouraging other breweries and brewing schools to do the same. We are allocating these positions in an exclusive course as a way to ensure that women feel welcomed at The Beer Academy and are fully assured that there are many opportunities to be built together, internally or externally”, explains Laura Aguiar, brew master and head of brewing knowledge and culture at Ambev.
