The ANP Measure Will Come Into Effect on May 7. The Agency Understands That the Change Will Facilitate Understanding of the Real Fuel Prices
Fuel stations will start displaying prices with two decimal places instead of three. This measure takes effect on May 7. It is resolution No. 858/2021 from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), which gave this deadline for fuel stations to adjust.
The ANP stated that the main objective of the change is to make the price clearer for consumers, aligning the values with the numerical expression in Brazil. Prices must now be displayed with two decimal places on the panel and the displays of fueling pumps.

The ANP emphasized that the third digit may be kept if the third number is 0 and it is locked during vehicle refueling. The agency understands that fuel stations will not need to change the pump modules, something that would certainly require investment from the stations. The ANP believes that the measure will not have any impact on fuel prices for the final consumer.

Gasoline Prices at Fuel Stations Hit Record High
Consumers are paying more and more for a liter of gasoline. The month of April ended with fuel costing R$ 7.524, an increase of 3.24% compared to March. Compared to the same period last year, the increase in fuel price was an impressive 31.14%.
This is the highest price ever recorded by ValeCard, a company specializing in management solutions, which began its analysis in January 2019.
The survey showed that gasoline prices increased in all states except Bahia – where the average gasoline price decreased by 2.26%. Meanwhile, the largest increases in gasoline prices were recorded in the Federal District (5.05%), Piauí (5.03%) and Paraná (4.16%). Finally, the smallest price increases were recorded in Rio Grande do Norte (1.81%), Acre (2.03%) and Rio Grande do Sul (2.51%).
Natural Gas Also Experiences Price Adjustment
On Sunday, May 1, Petrobras increased distribution prices for natural gas by 19%. The change occurred after a quarterly adjustment, which took into account the variation in oil barrel prices and the exchange rate during the period.
The price of natural gas will remain the same for the next quarter. The good news is that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders will not be affected by the new adjustment. On the other hand, drivers who use Natural Gas for Vehicles (GNV) will be significantly impacted by the new prices.
