Brazil Begins New Phase in Foreign Sales After Chinese Approval Announced in November 2025

China approved, on November 10, 2025, ten Brazilian ventures to export sorghum.
This marked a strategic advance for the national agribusiness.
The measure resulted from negotiations that began in November 2024.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) confirmed this information.
From this, four units in Mato Grosso were authorized.
Four units in Minas Gerais were also cleared.
Additionally, one unit in Rondônia received approval.
Another unit in Bahia completed the list of authorized ones.

Sorghum stands out as a versatile cereal.
It is useful in the production of flour, vinegar, and animal feed.
Consequently, the product gained relevance in international trade.
China accounted for approximately 80% of global sorghum imports.
These imports totaled US$ 2.6 billion, according to the original text.
Therefore, the approval expands Brazil’s presence in the foreign market.

Competition and Global Context

Mapa reported that Brazil produced over 4 million tons of sorghum.
Of this total, only 178,400 tons were exported.
This volume corresponds to 4% of national production.
Thus, the Chinese approval tends to increase this share.

The United States emerges as a strong competitor in the sale of the cereal.
Similarly, they compete with Brazil in the Chinese market.
The scenario changed after months without Chinese purchases of American agricultural products.
China and the United States resumed this trade after new negotiations.

The resumption occurred after an official meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.
Donald Trump represents the Republican Party.
Xi Jinping leads the Communist Party of China.
Trump celebrated on social media the resumption of Chinese purchases.
He stated that sorghum would return to enter the Chinese market on a large scale.
Consequently, this global movement influences Brazil’s positioning.

Expansion for the Distillery Grain Sector

China authorized five Brazilian ventures to export DDG and DDGs and, therefore, expanded the commercial scope.
These products correspond to dried distillers’ grains and, thus, are co-products of corn processing.
They are widely used in poultry and swine nutrition and additionally offer a substitute for more expensive products.
Soybean meal and corn can be substituted, thereby reducing costs.

The authorization included four units in Mato Grosso and, additionally, one unit in Mato Grosso do Sul.
Therefore, the measure reinforces Brazil’s presence in the international market and, at the same time, diversifies shipments to China.
The process remains aligned with sanitary regulations and, consequently, ensures technical compliance between countries.
