BYD Sea Lion 07 Launched in China to Compete with Tesla Model Y.
BYD unveiled its latest fully electric coupe SUV, the Sea Lion 07, at the Guangzhou Auto Show. This vehicle is based on the 3.0 electronic platform and features the advanced CTB (Cell to Body) technology. Part of the brand’s Ocean line, the Sea Lion 07, which arrives after the Seagull, Dolphin, and Seal, is positioned between the Yuan Plus and Tan.
The resemblance to the Seal model is evident in its design, which shares the same slim LED headlights and a lower line for daytime running lights. This look was inspired by the Ocean-X concept and was developed by the team led by Wolfgang Egger, a former Audi designer who has headed the BYD team since 2016.

The Sea Lion 07 is a considerably large car, measuring 4,830 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, 1,620 mm in height, and with a 2,930 mm wheelbase. With the designation 07, BYD aims to position the Sea Lion as a more refined and expensive option, almost like a luxury line, to keep up with the trend in China of having sub-brands with differentiated proposals and positions.

BYD has not yet released technical specifications for the Sea Lion 07’s drivetrain or batteries. However, it is confirmed that the vehicle will feature Cell-to-Body (CTB) technology, with batteries integrated into the floor or body, eliminating the need for large battery packs positioned in specific locations. In the case of the Sea Lion 07, the batteries are integrated into the floor, providing a 66% increase in volume and 10 mm of additional vertical space.
The goal of the BYD Sea Lion 07 is to compete with the Tesla Model Y in China, with an estimated price between 200,000 and 260,000 yuan (R$ 136,968 to R$ 178,059). However, there is a possibility of internal cannibalization, as the recent Song L model was launched from the equivalent of R$ 152,000, which may generate competition between the two models.
So far, BYD has not mentioned plans for a launch in other markets or the start date for sales in China.
