Small Rural Producer from Vargem Alta (ES) Revolutionizes Coffee Cultivation with Sustainable and Accessible Machine, Wins InnovaCities 2025 and Attracts International Investors in Search of Brazilian Innovation.
Espírito Santo, already known as one of the main coffee-producing regions of Brazil, now has another reason to stand out on the international stage. Coffee farmer and inventor Anatalício dos Reis Silva from Vargem Alta surprised the world by presenting a portable sieve capable of cleaning up to 420 kg of coffee per hour, winning three awards at the 14th edition of InnovaCities – International Fair of Smart, Joyful, Human and Resilient Cities, held from September 15 to 17 in Foz do Iguaçu (PR).
International Recognition and Million-Dollar Proposals
During the event, Anatalício received proposals from investors from China and the Netherlands, interested in bringing the technology to their countries. “I will evaluate each of them carefully, along with my lawyer,” said the producer, emphasizing that the decision will be made cautiously to preserve the essence of the project: benefiting small farmers. In the competition, the capixaba won:
- 1st place in the Diversity and Technology for Equity category;
- 1st place in Urban Sustainability;
- 3rd place in Inclusive Governance and Public Policies.

Machine That Transforms Work in the Field
The sieve developed by Anatalício replaces the manual process of winnowing, one of the heaviest stages of coffee cultivation. Previously done through intense physical effort, which posed risks of musculoskeletal and respiratory problems, it can now be executed practically, safely, and much faster.

India has reduced poverty in just over a decade, has become a powerhouse in technology and artificial intelligence, and now Brazil wants to negotiate strategic minerals and rare earths with the country that is becoming the new China.
With a capacity of 420 kg/hour, the machine not only ensures efficiency but also democratizes access to technology, as it was designed to be accessible to small producers. The innovation strengthens family agriculture and promotes a sustainable production model.
From the Farm to the International Fair
Inventor by vocation, Anatalício has already stood out for creating solutions to modernize his farm without losing sight of environmental care. With support from Sebrae/ES and partnership with teachers and students from Ifes – Campus Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, the producer managed to turn his idea into a robust and functional equipment.
“I proudly represented Vargem Alta, Espírito Santo, and Brazil during the competition. This victory was the result of a great team effort, based on the history and experience of the producers from our region,” he stated.
Espírito Santo on the Map of Agricultural Innovation
According to Sebrae, Anatalício’s achievement highlights Espírito Santo on the global rural innovation stage. “Coffee is one of the treasures of Espírito Santo, and it is important to show that innovation also comes from small properties,” emphasized technical analyst Luciana Nogueira.
InnovaCities brought together 70 projects from countries such as China, India, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Portugal, and New Zealand, solidifying itself as one of the main global hubs for urban and rural innovation.
The Future of the Sieve and Coffee Cultivation
With international recognition and interest from foreign investors, the next step for the capixaba coffee grower could be to expand the production of the sieve to serve not only producers in Brazil but also other countries dependent on coffee cultivation.
For the market, it represents a turning point: a practical, affordable, and sustainable solution that can reduce costs, improve worker health, and increase coffee productivity, one of Brazil’s main agricultural products.
