Braskem Closes Energy Purchase Agreement with Casa dos Ventos, Contract Exceeds BRL 1 Billion
Reinforcing its commitment to making its energy matrix more renewable, Braskem has just closed an energy purchase agreement with Casa dos Ventos, one of the largest investors in wind energy in the country and renewable energy investors in the country. The contract, which exceeds BRL 1 billion, has a term of 20 years and will enable the construction of a new park in Rio do Vento, a wind complex with a total installed capacity of 504 megawatts (MW) being developed by Casa dos Ventos in Rio Grande do Norte.

Among the four renewable energy purchase agreements, this is the largest long-term contract signed by the petrochemical company since 2018. The company does not disclose the amount of energy acquired from Casa dos Ventos, but states that with the agreement, it exceeds the mark of 100 MW average contracted from wind and solar sources.
“We are positioned with a significant volume of renewable energy that will meet the company and the entire petrochemical chain. This reinforces our goal to reduce our emissions by 15% by 2030 and to become a carbon-neutral company by 2050,” says Gustavo Checcucci, Energy Director at Braskem.
Renewable Energy in Brazil
Brazil currently has 83% of its electric matrix originating from renewable sources, according to Reive Barros, Secretary of Energy Planning and Development at the Ministry of Mines and Energy. The share is led by hydropower (63.8%), followed by wind (9.3%), biomass and biogas (8.9%), and centralized solar (1.4%).
Barros emphasized the importance of utilizing all available renewable sources, not only for the technological and environmentally sustainable aspect but mainly for socioeconomic reasons, creating jobs and income for our population.
“Brazil stands out in the world for its increasing use of renewable sources, thereby contributing to a greater reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, with values compatible with the commitments made in the Paris Agreement,” he stated.
