New Wind Power Project by Vestas and Casa dos Ventos to Arrive in the Second Half of 2021
Vestas has signed a new contract with Casa dos Ventos for the Babilônia 360 MW project, located in the municipalities of Morro do Chapéu and Várzea Nova, in Bahia. Fourth contract between the companies in just two years, the order takes cooperation beyond the mark of 1.5 GW and highlights Casa dos Ventos’ position as Vestas’ largest customer in Latin America and one of the largest investors in the development of wind projects in Brazil.

The order includes 80 V150-4.2 MW wind turbines delivered in optimized power mode of 4.5 MW, as well as a 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service contract, optimizing energy production throughout the project’s lifetime.
“This order highlights the strong partnership we have with Casa dos Ventos and our shared vision of a sustainable future,” says Eric Gomes, Sales Director of Vestas in Brazil. “Just two months after the launch, we have already reached over 1.3 GW in order intake in Brazil for our new optimized power mode of 4.5 MW for the V150-4.2 MW turbine. We are proud that our leadership in technology continues to enable us to successfully support our clients in auctions.”

Every time a river flows into the sea, an amount of energy equivalent to a 120-meter waterfall is silently wasted, but Japan has just inaugurated the world’s first power plant that captures this waste and transforms it into electricity 24 hours a day without sun, wind, or fuel.

Fortescue announces a radical shift by replacing diesel with a system featuring 1.2 GW of solar energy, 600 MW of wind energy, and up to 5 GWh in batteries, a giant project that could save $100 million per year and transform heavy mining into one of the largest 100% renewable operations in the world by 2028.

Canadian engineers want to compress air in underground caverns and build plants of up to 500 MW that function as giant lungs to store renewable energy for hours and stabilize entire electrical grids.
Casa dos Ventos Starts to Supply More Renewable Energy
The majority of the project’s production will be used by Casa dos Ventos to provide renewable energy to corporate customers through corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs), but part will be dedicated to serving the regulated market as a result of the A-6 auction held in 2019.
“The 1.5 GW we have secured with this fourth contract reinforces Casa dos Ventos’ leadership in the sector and reaffirms our commitment to the energy transition in Brazil, but also on a global scale. The wind farms that have received or will receive this equipment will generate enough energy to rank them among the largest in the world, in addition to economic development for the country,” says Lucas Araripe, Director of New Business at Casa dos Ventos. The delivery of the wind turbines is expected in the second half of 2022, with commissioning planned for the second quarter of 2023.
