With Modern Tanks, Hypersonic Missiles and Combat Drones, China Transforms Parade into Strategic Military Demonstration Impacting Taiwan and Challenging Western Allies
On September 3, Tiananmen Square will become the stage for one of the largest military demonstrations in recent Chinese history, according to the portal Xataka Brasil. The country will hold a massive parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The event will also serve to showcase the military strength achieved during Xi Jinping’s government.
The Magnificence of the Ceremony
According to the portal Xataka Brasil, the parade will feature over 10,000 soldiers, around 100 aircraft, and hundreds of ground vehicles. The ceremony is expected to last 70 minutes and will be the largest display of Chinese weaponry since 2019.
There will be 45 troop formations and more than 100 types of military equipment, all domestically produced and currently in active service. Authorities have confirmed that a significant portion of this arsenal will be unprecedented.

The Soviet IL-40 aircraft had six 23 mm cannons more powerful than any fighter of the time, but it was eventually canceled because when the pilots fired all the cannons at once, the engines would shut down in the air.
Next-Generation Weapons
Among the new developments are hypersonic missiles that reach five times the speed of sound, anti-missile defense systems, and directed energy weapons.
In addition, autonomous combat drones and advanced electronic warfare systems will be highlighted.
According to Major General Wu Zeke, the deputy director responsible for the parade, the weapons “will fully demonstrate our army’s solid capability to adapt to technological advances and win future wars.”
Strategic Message
Although the parade officially commemorates the victory over Japan, the message goes beyond historical borders.
Beijing wants to show the United States and its allies in the Pacific the evolution of its military capability.
Analysts expect the appearance of new anti-ship missiles, such as the YJ-15, YJ-17, YJ-19, and YJ-20 models, all developed to neutralize aircraft carriers and hinder the access of Western naval forces in the region.
Impact on Taiwan
Another critical point is Taiwan. The new Chinese tanks, equipped with unmanned turrets and active protection systems, represent an additional challenge to the island’s defensive strategy. This defense relies on mobile and lower-cost anti-tank weapons.
Sheu Jyh-Shyang, from Taiwan’s National Defense and Security Research Institute, was straightforward: “This is not good news for Taiwan.”
Alliance with Moscow
The presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin alongside Xi Jinping further reinforces the geopolitical weight of the event.
Putin had already participated in the 2015 parade when most Western leaders were absent. This proximity symbolizes the alliance between Russia and China against Western pressures.
Tensions in the Pacific
The parade takes place amid a delicate backdrop. The People’s Liberation Army has intensified exercises simulating blockades and attacks against Taiwan.
At the same time, Beijing insists on denying the operational space of U.S. forces in the Pacific.
Therefore, the event in Tiananmen will be more than a historical celebration. It will be a firm message about China’s military and strategic position in the global balance.
