Wind And Solar Energy Highlighted In Registrations For The A-4 Auction, Which Will Take Place In May. More Than Half Of The Projects Are Located In The Northeast
The Energy Research Company (EPE) registered 1,894 solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectric, and biomass projects for the A-4 Auction for the delivery of new energy, totaling 72,250 MW. The auction is scheduled to take place on May 27, and the projects will still go through the qualification phase to compete in the bidding. What is initially surprising is that a large number of the projects are located in the Northeast region. Solar energy was once again one of the main highlights in the registration, surpassing wind energy.

In solar energy alone, 1,263 projects were registered, with an installed capacity of 51,824 MW, more than double the registration of wind energy, which received only 542 projects, totaling 21,432 MW.
In addition to solar energy and wind energy, 60 hydroelectric projects were also registered for the A-4 Auction, totaling 976 MW, and biomass thermal plants, with 29 projects capable of generating 1,018 MW (28%). The state with the highest number of projects is in the Northeast, Bahia, with 28%, followed by Minas Gerais (16%) and Rio Grande do Norte (13%).

In its report, the EPE states that, for the first time, wind energy and solar energy projects will compete in the auction as part of the same product, creating greater competitiveness and benefiting consumers even more. In this case, the contract is for 15 years, and for thermal and hydroelectric plants, it is 20 years, excluding the thermal plants that will bid for availability contracts.
70% Of A-4 Auction Projects Are In The Northeast
The Northeast region accounts for the largest numbers of registered projects and capacity for the A-4 Auction, with approximately 70% of the projects due to the prevalence of wind energy and solar energy.
Thermal plants are located mainly in the Midwest and Southeast states, and hydroelectric projects are in the Midwest and Southern regions. The qualifications of the registered projects are scheduled for May 12, according to the Energy Research Company.
The A-4 Auction is an electricity auction through a bidding process, meaning it is a competition promoted by the public sector with the aim of obtaining electricity within a future timeframe, either through the construction of generating plants, transmission lines, or even the energy generated by operational plants with their investments already paid.
Wind Energy And Solar Energy In The Northeast Set Records
In July of last year, the ONS announced ten records for wind energy and solar energy production. According to the entity, there were four records for average wind generation and four for instantaneous generation (peak), along with two more records for solar energy.
The standout day was July 22, when wind power supplied 102% of the Northeast region for an entire day. On that day, 11,399 MW average of wind energy was produced. On the 30th, a new solar energy record was set, with 682 MW average accumulated.
