Skinniest Building in the World Measures 435 Meters in Height

The tower is one of the tallest buildings in the United States, as well as the skinny skyscraper in the world, with a height-to-width ratio of about 1:24, its height of 435 meters sharply contrasting with its “thinness” of 17.5 meters wide.
Despite the size of the new Steinway Tower, it was technically built as an addition to Steinway Hall. Construction of the tower began in 2014, and the building was restored as part of the residential project.
A major initial construction challenge was the foundation of the skinniest building in the world. Engineers had to work around the foundation of the existing old building, in addition to the limited area to accommodate the new structure.
The Foundation of the Skinniest Building in the World Consists of a 4-Meter Concrete Slab
In general, the foundation of the skinniest building Steinway Tower consists of a concrete slab and bases with thicknesses ranging from 1.5 to 4 meters, founded on medium to hard rock of 60 tons per square foot.
The new foundation was adjusted around the foundation of the old building, in order to reduce intervention in the existing structure. The skinniest building in the world is made with reinforced concrete with a 38-meter steel crown.
The gravity system consists of flat concrete slabs cast in place supported by reinforced concrete columns and shear walls.

There are a total of 10 mechanical floors in the tower, and to accommodate the limited space, setbacks and transfers resulting on the south side of the building, several columns that would normally have been located on the south of the building were replaced by a deep concrete beam, leaving two columns on the north side throughout the building.
The typical thickness of the residential slab is 30.5 centimeters, supported by shear walls and only two columns, allowing for a column-free layout in the interiors.
Interior of Steinway Tower
The tower accommodates one residence per floor, plus 14 in the adjacent Steinway building, bringing the total to 60 apartments. The 46 luxury apartments in the new tower of the building range from 359.8 to 662.2 m².
The building tapers to a flat edge at its peak and has its east and west facades clad in terracotta tiles with bronze detailing, while the glass curtain walls face Central Park to the north and Lower Manhattan to the south.
Also in the skinniest building in the world, there is a 25-meter pool, along with other luxury amenities, including a private dining room and a double-height gym with a terrace.
