With an investment of over R$150 million, the bridge over the São Francisco River will eliminate precarious crossings, boost the economy and transform the North of Minas Gerais. A historic landmark that combines progress and sustainability.
Few works in Brazil have such a significant potential for impact as this one.
A million dollar investment, a monumental project and the promise of changing the lives of thousands of people in the North of Minas Gerais.
But what exactly is behind this construction that has been making headlines? The answer goes far beyond what you might imagine.

Last Friday, December 13, the government of Minas Gerais took a crucial step by issuing the order to resume construction on the bridge over the São Francisco River.
This monumental construction, which will connect the cities of Manga and Matias Cardoso, promises to transform the logistics, economy and daily life of the region.
an ambitious project
With an estimated cost of more than R $ million 150, the bridge will have 1.120 meters long and 13,8 meters wide.
According to the vice-governor of Minas Gerais, Professor Mateus Simões, the work is much more than a physical connection between two cities.
“This bridge will create a new connection between Montes Claros and Brasília, transforming the logistics and economy of the North of Minas”, he highlighted.
Another important aspect is the positive environmental impact of the work.
The new bridge will eliminate the need for ferry and boat crossings, which caused damage to the São Francisco River and inconvenience to local residents.
The project also includes the improvement of access roads to the bridge, increasing the safety and efficiency of transportation in the region.
Origin of resources and previous obstacles
The resources for construction come from the reparation agreement signed with the mining company Vale, as a result of the dam collapse in Brumadinho, in 2019.
This agreement secured significant funds for several projects in the state, including this monumental bridge.
However, the path to resuming work was not simple. Activities were paralyzed due to the termination of contract with the construction company initially responsible by the project.
According to the Minas Gerais government, the company was removed by “inability to move forward with services”.
The impasse was resolved with the hiring of the PRSF consortium, formed by the companies SA Paulista de Construções e Comércio, Azevedo e Travassos Infraestrutura Ltda. and Benito Roggio e Hijos Sociedad Anônima, from Argentina.
Economic and social impacts
The bridge does not only represent a mobility solution. Its impact should be directly reflected in regional economy, by facilitating the flow of products and attracting new investments.
With the faster connection between Montes Claros and Brasília, local producers will be able to access wider markets, while tourism can gain a new boost.
In addition, there is a forecast of generation of direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase, bringing economic relief to a region that has historically faced socioeconomic difficulties.
When should the work begin?
According to the government, the works are expected to begin in the post-rainy period, in 2025.
The choice of this moment aims to avoid delays and ensure that weather conditions favor the progress of the work.
Reflections on sustainability
Another highlight is the reduction of environmental impact.
Without ferry and boat crossings, the São Francisco River will suffer less interference in its ecosystem.
This concern reinforces the project's commitment to environmental preservation, ensuring that progress is achieved in a sustainable manner.
A historic landmark for the region
The bridge over the São Francisco River is not just an infrastructure project. For the residents of Manga and Matias Cardoso, it symbolizes the end of an era of isolation and hardship.
Crossing the river without relying on ferries will represent more than convenience: it will be a step towards modernity.

THIS WORK IS AT LEAST 100 YEARS DELAYED.
Minas Gerais has stopped in time for a few years now, Bahia in that period
About 5 bridges were built over the São Francisco River and there wasn't all this fuss... Minas Gerais, on the other hand, had all this sensationalism!
