Copel Generation and Transmission (GT) Bought the Wind Power Plant in Rio Grande do Norte. The Plant Will Contribute to the Creation of Job Opportunities for Various Residents of the Neighboring Community
According to a document sent to the renewable energy market this Monday (17), Copel Generation and Transmission purchased the Vilas wind power plant, located in the city of Serra do Mel, in Rio Grande do Norte, for R$ 1 billion. With this investment, it is estimated that many job opportunities will be created both directly and indirectly.

The project has a capacity of 186.7 megawatts and has long-term financing with maturity dates up to 2040, which were arranged alongside the Bank of the Northeast. According to Copel, the acquisition of the wind power plant in Rio Grande do Norte is part of the company’s strategy for sustainable growth in the renewable energy sector and the creation of new job opportunities.
With the purchase, Copel will increase its installed capacity for wind energy generation by 29%. The closing of the transaction for the plant in Rio Grande do Norte will take place on November 30, 2021. The Vilas wind power plant in Rio Grande do Norte began operations in 2020, with 23 turbines and 97MW of installed power.
