Port of Paranaguá Announces Five-Year Partnership with Copel for Energy Supply

Copel has signed a contract to sell energy to the Port of Paranaguá for the next five years, through its trading company created to operate in the free contracting environment. The supply is expected to serve the five units of the Port, starting in May of this year and anticipating savings between R$ 10 million and R$ 13 million during the contract period, which will depend on the current tariff flag.

In migrating to the ACL, the Port of Paranaguá chose the retail trader modality, through which Copel becomes responsible for the intermediation and obligations with the CCEE – Electric Energy Trading Chamber. This simplifies and reduces costs with the port’s association with the CCEE.

The largest grain port in the country and the third when including all types of cargo, the Port of Paranaguá will be another state-owned company in Paraná to migrate to the free market. In 2020, the Technology Institute of Paraná, Tecpar, also signed a contract with Copel, as did the State Legislative Assembly.

Founded in 2016, the trading company is the fourth largest in the country in terms of energy sold in this modality. Now, it is preparing to serve energy consumers from all segments, currently promoting a digitalization process of its operations to support this goal. The expectation is that by the end of 2021 the company will be 100% digital, facilitating the provision of services to end consumers.

“We are expanding retail trading as we believe in this trend of simplifying the process for consumers seeking savings in the free market, without the bureaucracy of the Electric Energy Trading Chamber,” adds the General Director of Copel Free Market, Franklin Miguel.
