Equinor said today, 29, that the incident occurred as a result of an explosion of a portable gas container onboard, and it was reported to Equinor’s emergency response center at 1806 CET. There were 70 people onboard the platform when the incident occurred.

The two injured employees were attended to by health personnel onboard the Heimdal and were transported to Haukeland University Hospital and Stavanger University Hospital by a SAR helicopter and a helicopter from the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.

Equinor is monitoring both the injured and their families. The Heimdal organization is also being taken care of, Equinor said.

On Thursday night, additional personnel traveled to the platform to support those onboard.

Equinor also stated that the relevant authorities had been informed and updated, and that the incident would be further investigated.

Heimdal is a gas field west of Sveio, in Hordaland county, in the northern part of the North Sea, north of Johan Sverdrup and south of Oseberg, near the border with the UK continental shelf.

The Heimdal Gas Center, with production license (PL) 036, is a gas processing and distribution hub. It consists of an integrated steel platform and a lifting platform.

The current partners of Heimdal are Equinor (29.4% – operator), Petoro (20%), Total E&P Norge (16.7%), Spirit Energy (28.8%), and LOTOS Exploration and Production (5%).

The condition of one of the employees who was injured in yesterday’s work-related incident on the Heimdal platform in the North Sea is serious but not life-threatening, Equinor reported on Friday afternoon.
