With an Investment of R$ 100 Million, Facility in Mata de São João Is Expected to Generate 300 Jobs and Boost Economic Development in the Bahia Interior.
The Dragão brand, part of the Interlândia Group and recognized as a leader in its segment in the Northeast, inaugurated its new factory in the municipality of Mata de São João, 63 kilometers from Salvador, on Tuesday (15). The facility received an investment of R$ 100 million and is expected to generate around 300 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
The establishment of the new factory is part of a strategic policy adopted by the Government of the State of Bahia, which focuses on encouraging the arrival of new enterprises to the interior of the state. According to data from the Ministry of Labor, in February 2025 alone, Bahia registered a positive balance of 20,132 formal jobs, leading job generation with signed contracts in the Northeast.
Production and Job Creation
The new Dragão factory was designed to produce products such as bleach, disinfectant, and multipurpose cleaner. The production capacity of the facility exceeds 200 million liters per year, which, in addition to ensuring supply for the Bahia market, will allow for the expansion of distribution to other regions of the country, such as the Southeast and Midwest.

According to Marcos Pena, the Human Resources coordinator of the company, approximately 95% of the workforce hired so far resides in Mata de São João. Currently, 70 direct jobs have already been generated, with expectations that this number will double by the end of 2025.
State Incentives and Regional Development
During the inauguration ceremony, the governor of Bahia, Jerônimo Rodrigues, highlighted the state’s role in attracting investment and decentralizing industrial development. According to him, fiscal and structural incentives will continue to be offered to attract new companies, strengthening the local economy and generating jobs in the interior.
“We have, for example, in the West, in the Extreme South, our trips abroad to seek companies to establish themselves. The strong role of the state is this. Our incentives will continue to be available, so that industries and services can set up in Bahia,” said the governor.
The establishment of the new Dragão factory reflects this strategy, which also resulted in the recent inauguration of the São Braz Food Industry in Conceição do Jacuípe, another municipality in the Bahia interior.
Expansion and Commitment to the Local Community
The executive of New Projects Development at the Interlândia Group, João Abreu e Lima, emphasized that Dragão’s arrival in Mata de São João represents not just a business action, but a commitment to the sustainable growth of the city. He stated that the company seeks to contribute to the development of the region it is in, both economically and socially.
“In every city where we establish our industry, we seek to develop the region as a whole, have a good relationship with the surrounding community, generating jobs, bringing technology, and working to develop the local economy,” he explained.
In addition to the direct job creation, the new factory has stimulated sectors such as transportation, food, maintenance, and general services, extending the effects of the initial investment beyond the walls of the industry.
Decentralization of Investments in Bahia
The State Secretary of Economic Development, Angelo Almeida, highlighted that 75% of recent investments in Bahia have been directed to the interior. The government’s goal is to maintain this proportion, addressing a population of 15 million inhabitants and promoting the decentralization of income and opportunities.
According to the secretary, the arrival of enterprises like the new Dragão factory is a direct reflection of entrepreneurs’ confidence in state public policies, which include tax incentives, support for infrastructure, and professional training.
