Swiss Excavator Has Deutz Engine of 115 kW and Digging Depth of 6 Meters. Experts Advocate Production in Brazil to Boost Civil Construction.
The Menzi Muck M545X spider excavator, manufactured in Switzerland, is designed to operate on slopes of 45 degrees and reach 15 km/h on uneven terrain. With a Deutz turbo-diesel engine of 115 kW and the capability to dig up to 6.2 meters deep, the equipment is used in complex projects, such as tunnels and slopes. In Brazil, its import costs about R$ 2.5 million, but experts are calling for incentives for local production.
Vx-Drive Technology: 15 km/h on Rough Terrain
The Vx-Drive system of the Menzi Muck M545X spider excavator offers infinitely variable traction, allowing a maximum speed of 15 km/h even on inclined areas. The technology eliminates the need for gear shifting, ensuring immediate response on steep climbs or unstable soils.
The P-Vation parallel support system maintains the stability of the Menzi Muck M545X spider excavator on slopes of up to 45 degrees. The four wheels, each 800 mm wide, distribute the weight of 13 tons, reducing the risk of sliding in mining or infrastructure projects.

Each blade measures over 150 meters, the complete rotor has a diameter of three football fields, and a single unit generates energy for 30,000 homes — China is building the most powerful wind turbine in the world, with 22 megawatts.
Deutz Engine and 9 Meters of Reach: Power for Deep Digging
The Deutz TCD 3.6 turbo-diesel engine of 115 kW (157 hp) delivers a torque of 675 Nm, sufficient for 12 hours of continuous operation. Combined with a hydraulic arm with 8.9 meters of reach, the machine removes up to 1.5 m³ of soil per minute.
Why Brazil Needs to Manufacture the Menzi Muck M545X Excavator?
The Menzi Muck M545X spider excavator is imported by few companies in Brazil, with high logistics and tax costs. Manufacturing it locally could reduce the price by up to 30%, according to the Brazilian Machinery Industry Association (ABIMAQ). Additionally, it would generate 500 direct jobs in engineering and production, speeding up construction projects like highways in mountainous regions.
The Menzi Muck M545X spider excavator combines extreme mobility and brute strength, but its adoption in Brazil faces challenges due to dependence on imports. For industry leaders, investing in national technology is key to competing globally and reducing delays in infrastructure projects.
