Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) Launches Opportunity for a Free Online Course on Strategies for Preventing Non-Communicable Chronic Diseases. Professionals can enroll until March 21, 2025, and enhance their skills in promoting public health in Brazil.

In a scenario where non-communicable chronic diseases (NCCD) represent a growing challenge for public health in Brazil, professional training initiatives become essential.

The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), through the Sérgio Arouca National School of Public Health (ENSP), is offering a unique opportunity for professionals interested in acting in the prevention and control of these diseases.

Enrollments are open for the course “Strategies for Preventing Non-Communicable Chronic Diseases (NCCD),” which is completely free and conducted remotely (EAD).

With a total workload of 120 hours spread over five months, the course aims to equip professionals to understand the risk factors associated with NCCD and develop effective strategies for prevention and control.

Registrations can be made until March 21, 2025, exclusively through the official Fiocruz website.

Course Objectives

The main objective of the course is to train professionals capable of identifying and intervening in the risk factors of NCCD, promoting public policies and health actions that contribute to reducing the incidence of these diseases.

Among the topics covered, the following stand out:

  • Tobacco Control: Study of public policies and the implementation of the World Health Organization (WHO) Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
  • Abusive Alcohol Use: Discussion of strategies to reduce harmful consumption of alcoholic beverages, considering cultural and social aspects.
  • Promotion of Healthy Habits: Encouragement of a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and combating sedentary behavior, essential factors in preventing diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.

Methodology and Structure

The course will be conducted entirely online, through a Virtual Learning Environment (AVA) that will offer synchronous and asynchronous activities.

This flexibility allows participants to manage their study schedules according to their availability, dedicating approximately six hours per week to the proposed activities.

Additionally, students will have the support of specialized tutors, ready to clarify doubts and guide the development of activities.

Target Audience and Requirements

The training is aimed at health professionals linked to the Unified Health System (SUS) and other professionals from related fields, such as economists, lawyers, educators, and physical education teachers, who are interested in promoting health and preventing NCCD.

To participate, it is necessary to have a bachelor’s degree, availability of six hours per week for studies, internet access, and basic computer skills.

Slots and Inclusion Policies

In total, 100 slots are offered, of which 70% are reserved for open competition and 30% for affirmative actions, benefiting black people, indigenous people, and persons with disabilities.

In addition, 40 alternate candidates will be selected to ensure the full allocation of available slots.

Selection Process and Registrations at Fiocruz

Registrations are open until March 21, 2025 and must be made exclusively through the official Fiocruz website. There is no registration fee.

Candidates must fill out an electronic form and attach the following scanned documents:

  • Brief Curriculum Vitae: According to the model provided in the course announcement.
  • Letter of Intent: Text of up to 15 lines, in which the candidate expresses their expectations regarding the course and how they intend to apply the knowledge acquired in their professional practice.

The selection of participants will be based on the analysis of the curriculum and the letter of intent, totaling a maximum score of 10 points.

The evaluation criteria include professional experience in the SUS, participation in courses and events related to the theme of NCCD, and clarity in presenting the ideas expressed in the letter of intent.

Importance of Training in Preventing NCCD

Non-communicable chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, represent a significant portion of public health problems in Brazil and worldwide.

Training professionals to act in the prevention and control of these diseases is essential for promoting a healthier society and reducing medical treatment costs.

Initiatives like those of Fiocruz directly contribute to training qualified professionals capable of implementing effective public policies and promoting positive changes in the population’s lifestyle.

Don’t miss the opportunity to enhance your career and actively contribute to public health in Brazil. Enroll in the course “Strategies for Preventing Non-Communicable Chronic Diseases” and be part of this transformation! Click to access the announcement or registration page.
