After participating yesterday in the meeting with Lula and ministers along with labor unions, the FUP – Unique Federation of Oil Workers’ delegation in Brasília held two other important meetings with government representatives on Thursday, the 19th.
The objective is to address issues related to the reconstruction of Petrobras and the recovery of the oil and gas industry, focusing on national sovereignty and national development. The agenda began in the morning when federation leaders met with Miriam Bergio, executive secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, at the Palazzo Planalto. Topics concerning the oil workers’ agenda were discussed, such as the suspension and reversal of the privatization of the Brazilian oil system, as well as the restoration of nitrogenous fertilizer factories and investments in the Northeastern and Northern states to restructure the country.

The FUP also discusses other related topics, such as the review of the State-Owned Companies Law (13.303/16), the Pre-Salt Line 3 project (gas flow from the Santos Basin to Comperj), the impact of oil exploration in the region between Mapa and Rio Grande do Norte, the role of the oil and gas sector in restructuring the Ministry of Mines and Energy, and the democratization of Petrobras management.
The Unique Federation of Oil Workers also met with José Guimarães, Vice President of Government Leaders at the Chamber of Commerce, and highlighted some themes and other issues discussed with the Executive Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior.

The main topics discussed at the meeting were the immediate reestablishment of the National Ingredients Policy, the reestablishment and reactivation of the Pre-Salt Social Fund, and Bill 1472/2021, which proposes an alternative to the Import Parity Price (IPP) policy, a proposal that is currently under discussion in the Senate led by Vice President Zé Neto (PT/BA). Given the relevance of the legislative items related to the oil and gas industry, union leaders emphasized the importance of parliamentary and governmental leaders establishing permanent dialogue channels with the men and women workers in oil. The general coordinator of the FUP, Deyvid Bacelar, described the meetings as “very positive.”
“We discussed important topics and warned about signing and closing contracts. Unfortunately, the current management of Petrobras still tries to carry on,” he refers to the process of signing and delivering regarding the alienation of state assets. Bacelar also highlighted the government’s receptivity to fundamental issues such as the resumption of Petrobras’ investment process and the company’s return to a leadership role in the country’s development. “This shows that the oil industry is not solely focused on corporate issues but also on Petrobras’ role in our country’s development,” he stated.
