The Federal Government installed 24 wells powered by solar energy in the hinterland of Pernambuco, with the aim of contributing to farmers who do not have quality drinking water. The project generates benefits for more than 600 people.

The Federal Government, through São Francisco and Parnaíba Valley Development Company (Codevasf), installed 51 wells powered by solar energy in the hinterland of the state of Pernambuco. The installations were carried out in the first quarter of this year with the aim of ensuring access to quality water for farmers in the region during the driest periods.

Federal Government benefits more than 600 thousand people in Pernambuco

According to Aurivalter Cordeiro, regional superintendent of Codevasf in Pernambuco, the Federal Government invested more than R$ 1,5 million in the drilling and installation of wells powered by solar energy, benefiting 600 people spread across 33 municipalities in the state. with the initiative.

It is worth mentioning that the Federal Government initiative was developed in 2019 and was born with the objective of bringing drinking water to the most underserved regions of Brazil. The program, since it was created, has contributed to almost 1 million Brazilians, generating 47 solar energy wells installed not only in Pernambuco, but throughout the region Northeast of the country and in parts of the state of Minas Gerais.

Understand how solar-powered wells work in Pernambuco

Wells powered by solar energy, installed by the Federal Government, basically rely on a set of solar energy panels and a pumping kit. The Kit is directly powered by photovoltaic solar energy panels, making it possible to use the pumps in hard-to-reach places and without the need for a cable to power the system.

In agriculture, it is common to need to carry water to irrigate the plantation or to drinkers at great distances from the well. In these cases, pumps powered by electricity could generate a very high cost for residents of Pernambuco. Solar energy was one of the alternatives found to allow the consumption of more water with greater efficiency and lower cost.

Federal Government encourages the use of solar energy

Earlier this year, the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, sanctioned the new Distributed Generation Legal Framework, which establishes several rules on self-generation of energy, mainly on subsidies. Although it involves other sources, such as water, this type of generation is more common in solar energy.

Furthermore, it is important to mention that according to data from the Chamber of Commercialization of Electric Energy (CCEE), the generation of energy through solar energy panels expanded by 46,6% in October last year and for this year, the The estimate is that the increase will be even greater, considering that since 2020 the annual increase is 230%.

To meet these demands, some companies are importing solar energy panels. The increase in the use of solar energy was due to the emptying of hydroelectric reservoirs in the country, which raised the electricity tariff in the last year. According to data from Logcomex, a company that works with solutions related to foreign trade, imports of solar panels increased due to the reduction in taxes on this activity.
