The Growing Concern About CO2 Emissions
Awareness of the need to reduce and offset carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions has been a constant global discussion. A study published in Nature revealed that CO2 emissions reached a new record in 2022, with 37.5 billion tons. Although Brazil is not the largest emitter of CO2, the country plays a crucial role in this scenario. In 2020, while global greenhouse gas emissions fell by 7%, Brazil saw an increase of 9.5%.
Prosegur Group and the CO2 Offset Project
In an effort to reverse this situation, the Prosegur Group announces an innovative project to offset its CO2 emissions. The pioneering plan aims to offset CO2 emissions through 100% renewable energy generation at the União dos Ventos Wind Farm, located in Rio Grande do Norte. The initiative supports the development of energy security and boosts job creation in the region. The expectation is to reduce more than 250,000 tons of CO2 per year.
Antonio Rubio, Secretary General of the Prosegur Group, highlights the importance of sustainability for the company and the project as an opportunity to contribute to a more sustainable and secure world. Furthermore, the initiative is a significant step towards climate neutrality in Brazil.
