The best states to live in Brazil have just been revealed: Distrito Federal, São Paulo, and Santa Catarina dominate the national quality of life ranking in 2026.

The Brazil Social Progress Index 2026 shows significant differences between Brazilian states when evaluating social and environmental dimensions in the country’s 5,570 municipalities. Released this Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the survey uses 57 indicators to measure the performance of federative units and point out where the best and worst results are.

In the state ranking, the Federal District appears in the lead, with 70.73 points. Next are São Paulo, with 67.96, and Santa Catarina, with 65.58. These three states concentrate the highest scores in the country and represent the best average performances in the IPS Brazil 2026.

Paraíba appears as the best-placed state in the Northeast, while Tocantins records the best performance among the states in the North region. The Federal District leads in the Midwest, São Paulo in the Southeast, and Santa Catarina in the South.
