Honda Expands Electronic Clutch for Entry-Level Motorcycles, Making Riding Simpler and More Accessible, Especially for Beginners in Urban Use
Honda is expanding the use of its electronic clutch to more models. After debuting the technology in 2023 on the CBR650R and CB650R models sold in the United States, the Japanese brand now intends to include the system in its entry-level motorcycles as well. The goal is clear: to make riding easier, especially for beginners.
Technology Designed for Those Who Are Beginning
Honda’s electronic clutch eliminates the need to operate the clutch lever to shift gears.
This makes riding simpler, especially for those who are still getting used to manual motorcycles.

Chinese SUV with three engines, 1,380 hp, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.96 seconds debuts with ultra-fast charging and promises up to 1,416 km of total range for long trips in high modern luxury.
The technology positions itself between fully manual and automatic transmissions, offering an interesting middle ground.
The news is expected to arrive on the CL250 and Rebel 250 motorcycles. Both models were revealed earlier this year and are sold only in Japan.
Still, the decision to include the system in these models suggests that Honda plans to gradually bring the electronic clutch to its entire lineup.
How the Electronic Clutch Works
Honda’s system operates with sensors and motors that automatically control what’s known as “partial clutch.”
This means that the rider can shift gears whenever they want, without having to deal with the clutch lever.
Even when stopping or braking, the electronic clutch requires no manual intervention.
One of the major advantages is that this technology can be adapted to practically any existing Honda engine. This facilitates implementation and accelerates the modernization process of the lineup.
Impact on Performance and Weight
The inclusion of the electronic clutch does not significantly change the motorcycle’s weight. In the case of the Rebel 250, the increase was only 2.9 kg.
According to reports, this does not affect the quality of riding, making the update even more interesting.
The engine used in the Rebel 250 is the SOHC 249 cc, a base that serves for several other models. In the United States, for example, this same engine appears in versions with 286 cc due to a different stroke in the cylinder. The list includes motorcycles like Rebel 300, CB300R, CRF300L, CRF300LS, and CRF300L Rally.
Affordable Price
Honda also acertou na estratégia de preço. No Japão, a diferença entre a Rebel 250 com e sem embreagem eletrônica é de cerca de US$ 325.
The value is not considered high and can be a good cost-benefit for those who want more practicality in their daily life.
This indicates that, should the technology reach the West, the final price for the consumer should remain affordable.
Ease of Urban Use
The CL250 and Rebel 250 are aimed at beginners. Both were designed with ergonomics and simple handling, ideal for urban use.
The electronic clutch especially helps in common situations such as stops at traffic lights or congestion.
In these situations, the system avoids the constant switch between clutch and throttle. In motion, it allows for quick gear shifts, both up and down.
The expectation is that this technology will be adopted in more models from the brand soon.
