The Honda Fit, one of the most iconic models of the manufacturer in Brazil, has been accumulating reports of dissatisfaction from owners, especially regarding the CVT transmission, the incidence of rust on the bodywork, and high maintenance costs.

Although it has established itself for its versatility, interior space, and tradition of mechanical reliability since its launch in 2003, the vehicle faces challenges that affect its reputation in the used car market.

Since its arrival in Brazil, the Fit has won over a generation of consumers by combining practicality with good space utilization, attributes that are uncommon in hatchbacks of the same price range.

Domestic production has been halted, but the model continues to influence perceptions about the brand, which still markets the City in hatch and sedan versions.

Even so, despite the good image and the preference of many drivers for used Honda cars, complaints regarding the durability of components and the cost of potential repairs are growing.

Among the most cited issues by dissatisfied consumers are faults in the CVT transmission, notably in units manufactured between 2016 and 2017.

Reports of atypical noises, sudden loss of power, and the need for internal part replacements are frequent on forums and complaint websites.

A 2016 Honda Fit owner, for example, detailed that the car started making strange noises even after having undergone dealership maintenance.

After going to different workshops, the diagnosis was a failure in the transmission, with repair estimates ranging from R$ 10,000 to R$ 27,000.

In this consumer’s case, the final expense was R$ 10,000, and the vehicle was out of circulation for almost two months.

Honda, questioned about these incidents, highlighted that all vehicles have a three-year warranty with no mileage limit, provided that maintenance is performed at authorized dealerships.

After this period, repair costs and services become the responsibility of the owners. The company also stated that, in the case of the mentioned vehicle, the warranty period had already expired in 2019.

In another instance, an owner reported that their 2016/2017 Honda Fit completely lost power and stopped working, with no previous alerts on the dashboard.

The diagnosis at a trusted workshop revealed a rupture of the internal drive belt in the CVT transmission, a problem that required towing of the vehicle.

According to information provided by the manufacturer, effective contact with the consumer was not possible because the necessary data for further assistance could not be located.

Furthermore, similar reports have come from owners of 2015/2016 models with high mileage.

One consumer claimed that, even with all maintenance done at the authorized network, the car exhibited reduced speed and CVT transmission faults.

Again, Honda reiterated that the contractual warranty only covers the first three years, regardless of mileage, and emphasized that subsequent defects must be resolved at the owner’s expense.

Crack In The Rear Axle Raises Safety Alert In The Fit

Other reports point to safety issues, such as cracks detected in the rear axle of the Honda Fit, particularly in vehicles manufactured in 2010.

In June 2025, an LX version owner reported that during maintenance, a failure considered hidden was identified, with repair costs potentially reaching R$ 7,000.

The consumer demanded a position from Honda and alleged design defects, in addition to requesting replacement of the part, but was informed that the vehicle has been out of warranty since 2012.

The discussion about hidden defects gained momentum based on the Consumer Defense Code, which establishes manufacturer responsibility even after the end of the contractual term in cases that affect the product’s useful life and safety.

Still, the manufacturer’s response was negative regarding the part replacement, transferring the responsibility for the repair to the owner.

Several other consumers reported similar episodes, indicating that the crack in the rear axle may not be an isolated case.

Despite the expressions of discontent, Honda maintained its position, stating that only defects identified within the contractual warranty period are its responsibility.

The incidence of rust on the hood of the Honda Fit, even in vehicles subjected to recalls for the application of anti-corrosion protection, has become another source of dissatisfaction.

Consumers report that once the warranty expires, the manufacturer discharges responsibility for further interventions, even in cases of recurrence of the problem.

In one report, an owner of a 2014/2015 EXL Fit stated that they discovered rust near the front grille at the beginning of the year.

Upon seeking information, they found various similar reports in other vehicles of the same line.

The solution suggested by Honda representatives, in most cases, is the replacement of the hood, the cost of which falls entirely on the vehicle owner.

According to Honda, the warranty for the bodywork follows the same rules as other components: it only covers manufacturing and assembly defects in the first three years of use (or one year in the case of commercial use).

Problems resulting from natural wear or caused by external factors are not covered by the warranty after this period.

Honda Post-Sale Service And Consumer Satisfaction

Despite the reported problems, Honda maintains good satisfaction ratings in customer service.

Information available on consumer protection platforms indicates that the manufacturer responds to nearly all complaints and resolves almost 90% of cases, contributing to an average evaluation considered positive.

About 86% of consumers indicate that they would buy vehicles from the brand again, demonstrating confidence in after-sales service, even though questions remain regarding coverage for defects after the warranty period ends.

Used Honda Fit: What To Consider Before Buying

Given the reports of problems with the CVT transmission, structural cracks, and recurring rust issues, potential buyers should pay close attention to the maintenance history and the vehicle’s provenance when evaluating a used Honda Fit.

Sou o segundo dono de um fit 2015. Há um ano não conseguem fazer o câmbio funcionar. Já quebrou duas vezes, duas vezes rebocado por, novamente, o câmbio ter parado. E, hoje, depois de uma ano, lá está meu honda parado na oficina. Nao consigo nem vendê lo.
